Adding satellite radio to the factory xA Pioneer
I just purchased a new 2006 Scion xA and I love it. I already have sirius radio in my other cars and am wanting to add it to the xA. I don't want to pay the dealership $450 to do it because I think I can do it myself. So far I have been unable to completely understand what I need to do. I think all I need is the Pioneer SIR-PNR2 tuner and it will work through the factory head unit. Is that correct? Do I need anything else? Are these hard to install? Also, does anyone know the model number of the factory Pioneer head unit? Thanks to anyone who can help.
I am currently searching on the threads and can't find anything conclusive. I would also like to get a tuner myself and install it so that it would be much cheaper than paying the dealership 450 dollars. I pick up my '07 tC tomorrow! Can't wait!
I just purchased an xB Saturday and noticed that the Pioneer radio had "Sat Radio Ready" emblazened on the front of it. I've never had XM or Sirius but have considered it from time to time and figured that this might be a good opportunity.
I just looked on Crutchfield and they have a kit for $250 that includes everything needed to add XM capability to the Factory Toyota/Scion head unit. Although I'm guessing, I would expect it's compatible with the 06 xA. Not sure about the 07 tC but you can check easily enough by using Crutchfield's vehicle selector under the Satelite Radio to Factory Radio link and seeing what shows up.

Whenever I get ready to get XM I'll likely be going this route as it won't be too difficult to install.

The kit from Crutchfield should work for all Scions since it uses the standard Toyota harnesses. The SIR-PNR2 won't work even though it says it's for Pioneer radios. The SIR kits only work for aftermarket radios and a select few stock radios (GM and Ford).
Otherwise go with a kit from www.mcgeorgeparts.com or www.trdsparks.com
None of them are cheap options though. Only cheap option is getting a plug 'n play kit with external display.

Yeah, I have an external unit which I am planning on hooking up using the AUX input in the tC. I guess this is the best option for me with Sirius right now. I do prefer a tighter integration with the radio, however I don't want to switch to XM, so until they come out with something like the crutchfield link for Sirius I guess I will just stick with my XACT unit.
I'll post pictures of the tC soon!

Hope that works out for you. I've heard a few people say that there is a high-pitched whine (engine noise) that can be heard on the radio. I'm thinking it's from the cigarette lighter power cord. There's a noise filter that's available that can help that though. Another option is hardwiring the power cable to a 12V source.
I've heard the whine a few times on mine, but hasn't come back since, which is weird. I have the Stiletto 10 Sirius radio connected to my JVC headunit. I like it. I could have gotten the SIR-JVC sirius receiver for my car, but feel better knowing I can listen to Sirius just about anywhere and make full use of the service I'm paying for.

Yeah, I think you need a "Ground loop Isolator" to fix the problem with plugging the unit into the cigarette lighter you can get these at Radioshack cheap if it ever comes back. But like you mentioned you could just go straight to 12V.
