Default Back Brake Fell Off

Late last night when i was on my back to up to Surprise from Tucson .I heard a loud noise coming from my back passenger side rear wheel area. This was right after i got off I10 in Avondale and i was stopping at a light. I got out and looked , i really didnt see anything wrong. I drove off again, and next light turned green and my car would not go, it felt like my brakes were locked up. I got out again, and couldnt really see anything wrong. So i tried to go one more time, and nope sure wouldn't move.. I had some guy stop and help me, and we actually found it- My brake had lost its bolt and came off, So finally I got rescued by Tim, and he temp fixed it so i could drive to Surprise again. But wow that was scary . I am so glad it didnt happen in the middle of no where between here and Tucson..
I tried to call my warranty road side service and they were closed and told me to call back during business hours.. UGH

My back brakes have never been taken off nor have they been changed, so i wonder why this happened??

That sucks to hear, good thing it wasnt worse than that. Also a tip when roadside warranty is closed. Bryan works nightshift for Scion owners if you didnt know. Call him next time

I would document everything and demand that they change your caliper and anything else that this jamming might have messed up. 25lb torque on a bolt that was never touched could have gave them a law suit - they got off easy.

yeah like everyone said, at least your okay. No accidents, no injuries. Better talk to Scion. I know everytime I've worked on my car I've noticed all the factory stuff was tamper proofed with silicon with safety stuff, so take it in and have them check it over.

Did you have your brakes checked complimentary at any lube n' tune sort of place ?

I only do my stuff at camelback. I haven't had anything done except for a wheel alignment a week or so ago..

Devon

Thanks for all the comments.

Well, the rear of the tC has tie-rod sleeves for rear toe, and I haven't look enough to see if there's a rear adjustment for camber or caster...but take it back to them to check it over. At least you know if it was something they ooops on they will treat you right and get it fixed.

That sounds very odd definately have one of the dealers look at it. Bet it would be covered as warranty.

How much milage is on the car? If it's low it might have been a defect from the factory. The 2 bolts might have not been properly torqued down to specs and over time gradually backed out of the caliper.

That sucks, man. I don't know much about brakes, but it sounds like if it happened when the car was moving the wheel could have ripped right off or something :O

That customer service number is horrible I know Scion/Toyota make great products but come on it is not like it will only break down between 8am and 5pm..

A friend on mine had issues with his xA RS 3.0 and could not find the number … once we did they were closed.

Glad you and the tC are okay.

Get AAA. I don't know how much it is... I'm on my dad's plan. But it saved me a couple times when I had my old car. One time I broke down on the 51 on Christmas and the engine wouldn't turn over, and another time I almost blew out a couple tires when I was on the 10 heading to California.

They will also show up and jump the car, air up the tires, whatever. It's a good service to keep.

Sorry to hear about that devon, glad your OK. The fix should be easy, why the brake pad came off is odd.
