i have one question!!! why do we dodge the whole club idea?

I think a community would be cool if that is some funny way of saying we r a club but we dont want to say it!!

Anyways i do agree that we do need to be a little more oragnized

You see, when I hear club, I see rules & regulations. I see banishment when my girlfriend wants me at home for two weekends in a row and I cant come to a show. At least this is the way it was when I was younger. Now, when I hear community, I see a group of long distance friends. I see BBQ's and events not always having to do with the cars, but involving the cars. I see everyone not seeing that one person for a month because he had a life outside of his car and couldnt show up to the events for a while. In my opinion, this is the difference between club and community.

You are right about the club thing, but there is informal and formal. I believe everyone wants to stay as a community per se. I am just suggested for those people that show their cars that we get a little bit more oragnized and make suer we make the most out of it and get the most from it.

Well I will probably come off sounding like a jerk, but oh well.

The local Scion community is in place already, although organization would be much better for events (like an event leader or something). I know Eddie has done a great job in the past on getting things setup, although it seems he tends to get screwed part of the time with people not paying their bills (I know that's happened to a few others of you as well) when we go to dinner, Amazing Jakes, etc.

I've been a part of many automotive enthusiasts groups over the years, and I've never seen such a "cliquey" group than you guys. I can count on one hand the amount of people who are outgoing and talkative, as well as who make it comfortable for a new person to come to an event. It's for this reason that I haven't been going lately (not that anyone would notice). I feel way out of place enough having an xA, let alone not being a part of the "OMG Bryon's a **** in a bunnysuit" clique or whatever.

Back on topic, forming a "club" and establishing a name is what gains respect. Look at what Ground Zero, Negative Camber, etc have done. People know who they are. If you were to ask any AZ Scion owner what club they were a part of, you'd get 25 different answers. If everyone knows the name, then when they tell people about a show, or organizing an event, they KNOW who they are talking about.

However doing the "club" thing with by-laws, positions, etc. sucks. No one here really wants to do that. Not when there are so many eager-to-lead people in the group.

My suggestion is to settle on a name, have it trademarked (about $15), and go from there. That way there's a set name for t-shirts, stickers, etc., as well as everyone being on the same page when it comes to the name of the group! IMHO, Phoenix Scions Commitee is a horrible name.

Just my 2 cents. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Jason,

I know that I appreciate your comments very much and thanks for taking the time to post. I also know that I like seeing lots of different people at meets and finding all kinds of stuff like what people do for a living etc. I am sure most of us are that way and I do hope that you start coming back to meets. We dont know each other, but the events are ways to do this. If you have felt neglected or that you are not part of the group, I will be the first to say "I'm an very sorry for that"

BTW, I like the fact you have an xA. Makes you unique.

I wouldn't mind a group of people that organized everything depending on who it is. Some people are great leaders while others just like to think they are. I would nominate Ed, Chad and Mark just off the top of my head. Good guys there. I would bend over backwards for them, other people not so much.

Don't get me started on cliques.

Unless someone went into the forums to notice the change they would have gone to the old location and not know what's going on.
So what exactly are you proposing? Because if someone were to create some kind of a webpage for events you would have to log on and check for updates on there as well. Or are you saying it would be nice to have a contact list for that sort of thing?
We could build an email list on Scionetics. In fact, we have it already. Then we can create a sign-up sheet for reminders to people that say they want to come out. We could also do a weekly email of the general info, including the event calendar.

The info on Scionetics is localized so, if you're in the Phoenix area, you only see local events. We could set this up for any area in the US.

I would say yes, but then again, I have been in groups where they've turned it this way, and let's just say, it was all arguments from there(i.e. nobody being able to decide on one place to go, then other's complaining about how far things are away from their house and so on.)

YES on community
NO on club

I just believe that people aren't as involved as they say they are. I was at Camelback with Mark and Chris thinking of things we can do to get people motivated again. I believe some people only show up for meets with prizes, and others have good reasons not to show, like money situations and the like.

I suggested we have something that could involved everyone and not offend anybody. It would be fun and cheap to have say bbq's and such.

I just moved into a condo right by Desert Ridge. We can always rent out the clubhouse for the day, there is a nice pool and hot tub, the clubhouse has a billiards room and a theatre. If anyone has an xbox or anything, we can plug it right into the theatre and play on the bigscreen.

I think we just need more ideas that will involve everyone, hence the idea of community, this way there will be more involvment. Bars and gentlemen's clubs could be nice as a something on the side, but for the main event, it's kind of hard for those with family members, or those who don't fancy such places.

Just a thought.

P.S. keep it community not club

We don't need political structure, just better organization, which is what this thread is about. I like the group, the people and the atmosphere at the meets and I haven't noticed any cliques with this group. As for people not feeling welcome.... that's a bad thing on our part if it's happening. I'd like to think that it's just our core of people, tight-knit, and nothing more. We just need to be mindful of becoming, or seeming to become, a clique of any sort.

I think a website could do a lot, and I'm willing to modify Scionetics to suite us if that's the consensus here. Right now I'm working on the dealer-side of the site but I'll be able to handle the planning and email features sometime in the next week. I'm also open to other suggestions.

I think the point is getting totally missed here.

"Do we think that we should have one person as our spokesperson for car shows and events where there are trophies and entry fees"

If anyone wants a better explanation as to why this would be very important to the group, the community and individuals involved or those that participate you can call me anytime.

Everything else should stay the same IMHO.
