We have a dealer here that has been selling the smart for over a year-they get preferred treatment for a lot of reasons-and we have a subway that uses one as a delivery car and they are really cool. They have a lot of people room for the driver and passenger and enough for 4-5 paper groceries bag and they do VERY well in crash tests. There is even a suped up version by Brabus. I would love to have one (granted I would love to drive it to the beach with a 10 foot longboard on the roof because that would look so goofy) but I think they are cool.

The toyota version is called the IQ-still in protoype form but getting closer.

Super cool smart check this out

x2 why not just buy a yamaha rhino or an atv? thats what i ended up doing. i dont live in az but my boss owns a vacation home in az and has his atv's, and rhino registered. he let me use his address to register my Honda CRF250 dirtbike and use it here in cali cause its "streetlegal" now....iall i had to do was add lights and swap my knobbies for supermoto tires and i was all set....havent gotten pulled over by chp yet(knock on wood)...the best part is i top off with 1.5 gallons that lasts me the whole week

if I remember right, in an article from either Road & Track or Car & Driver, the Smart burns premium.

100% true, cynce told me herself, i was blown away that such a small and slow car needs premium fuel.

she told me you can put regular in, but it doesn't get nearly as good mpg.

I've seen 2 smart cars driving around here in Tucson. One by an old lady, and another driven by a cute blonde girl. The girl was driving around the city, but the old lady actually had it on the 10 and was heading towards Phoenix.

I do like the Smart alot, but I believe to justify ownership one must live in a highly populated area with limited parking options.

Oh and I love the Busa motor swaped versions! RWD drifting in a Smart is awesome!

yeah for sure, if i was to get a smart, i swap the motor, but by the looks of the set up, it looks like its sitting next to you where the passenger seat would be.. hmmmm not very smart if you ask me... lol

I'll bet that busa engine would fit in the rear behind the seats if someone tried....

I was just in Europe (Italy, France, Switzerland, UK) a few weeks ago and I saw these Smart cars EVERYWHERE. I agree that it doesn't make much sense to have one of these unless you're in a heavily populated area like NYC, Chicago, LA, etc. But the way gas prices are going, you're going to see a lot more of these. That's what'll drive people into buying them.

i live in time square and i ALWAYS find parking with my xB (gen 1) ... so i think that the xB is small enough to park in very densely populated areas. i park ON 42nd street itself. you cant get anymore crowded than that.

the thing i dont understand is why they cost like $17k+ ? that's the cost of a new xB! if my gen 1 fits in every spot i find, why do i need the smart car?

gen 1 xb: 1
smart car: 0

smart car, stupid move to price it so high.

/ rant

I would be game if everyone had the same size car. I would feel safe if everyone was in a compact. But...the safety cant be there. I dont care what they say.

Brabus FTW!
