Default dealing with snow/ice

any tips?

We got our xB in October/November 2005 in Florida. We just moved back to Michigan after 5.5 yrs there.

We're just getting into snow and ice now (along with freezing/below freezing temps). Do you have any tips for handling or things we should know about?

if its a 5spd transmission from a dead stop start it in 2nd gear just skip first gear all together you'll get the most traction from the get go(you'll be riding your clutch for lil bit each time you do it) same way with down shifting and engine braking (which i only engine brake in the winter time) its more effective at slowing your car down in the snow then your brakes will

i'm pretty sure its the same way with automatic transmissions and leave your traction control on at all times

My way of dealing with this fresh snow we've had the past two days is to find an open parking lot, turn off the trac/stability control, and have some fun!

With the traction control and VSC, the xB handles very well in the snow. I don't really change my driving habits a whole lot. I usually just allow more braking distance and slow down more in turns.

My E-brake has saved me a few times.

It can help you slow down slightly better in a panic stopp when abs isn't stopping you quickly enough. (Your brake pedal will sometimes 'panic' & go stiff when you do this)

A little pop of the E-brake can help get the car to rotate when you understeer. Be careful though.

Your stock tires (if you have them) work well
