by the looks, the front airbags should NOT have gone off at all. I would have them look into the side airbags though for sure. If it was more of a scraping/tearing type of force the damaged the side then they maybe should not have gone off either (remember it is hard decelleration and the impact together that set them off), but by the looks of that you should have it checked.

Either way, glad you are ok! That is a scary looking wreck!

side airbags suck...thats why I dont really reccomend them to my customers. Its not just Scion either, its any manufacturer right now. Its either hit or miss if they are even gonna go off.

oh and engifineer is prolly right. There are are a few points that need to be hit at once in a front end collision to set off the airbags. even side curtains. This was purly a side impact where no airbag sensors are.

I don't see how the other car could have run from that. With the damage done to your car, they should have a pretty effed up front end. A collision like that should leave a pretty big mark on the other car. I can't believe they didn't even stop to see if everyone was ok. You could have been dead for all they knew. What makes it worse is the fact that you had a kid in the back. I hope they burn for that.

On a lighter note, I am glad you are ok. Thank goodness Scion makes such heavy doors. Someone is watching out for you.

omg, those pictures say alot. i'm glad everyone survived. a car is something you can replace but not the lives of people. i was a passenger in a car accident last december. my gf was driving her sister's tc. it was a terrible experience so i can imagine what kind of things you're going through. it makes you realize that there is a higher power watching over us.

just in case you're wondering what my crash looked like:

just be strong. your injuries will heal up and life will be good again.

well seeing those accident pictures...eesh, but yeah I am with everyone on the higher power, you got a purpose for being here and ya aint leavin yet, You said you were ejected, were you wearing your seatbelt?? And ya I'm glad your alright, i have seen way too many people die lately. My dads friend (what a dumbass) Got kicked out of a concert in Orange county and ended up in Diego. He was drunk with another passenger in the car going 100+ mph on the freeway lost control flipped his truck, wasn't wearing a seatbelt so he was ejected from the truck and the truck somehow got on top of him and skidded to a stop...while he was under it. the thing that bugged my dad the most about it was he had talked to his friend 10 mins before it happened, and his other friend was walking to my dads front door and looked at my dad and said, "Rick, um, marcelino is dead, the Chp just answered his cell phone and said there had been a fatal accident." You never really know the fragility of life and how uninvincable we are until you are in that situation or have someone you know that is close, die from a car wreck. Two weeks after, a drunk driver killed another of my friends. Since then I have definetly slowed down on the road, its just not worth it. But I'm glad to hear your ok, and sorry about your tc, will you get another after this or will you buy something else?

dude that sux a$$....SO good that you and your fam made it ok. Call me brutal but if that happened to me, I would spend the rest of my life looking for the **** that did that. I'd about kill him. Hit and run people need to be dealt with. That's just wrong to bounce out like that. What a jerk. Oh well, maybe that guy will get struck by lightning by the "powers that be" that saved yall. The quote from Pulp Fiction by Samuel L Jackson comes to mind...lol....Divine Intervention rules.

Good thing you're ok. Nobody's complaining about the weight of the doors now huh? I feel safer in knowing that our cars can survive an incident like that.

Glad to hear everyone is alright. I have to agree with Skizzle if they never found this guy I can't sayi would ever stop looking.

Just one question though my 06 has a little tag on the seat by the upper lever that says SRS Airbag. I know it is on the drivers seat and I am not sure about the passengers. I looked and didn't see it on yours. Are you sure you had them? Because if you got charged for them I would make sure they are actually in there. Mine also says SRS on the pillars.
