Local Shop Letdown
Man, am I bummed. I finally went all-out and bought my new wheel and tire package and all is well with that. Since I'm on a [spending] roll, I figured I would buy some springs (Espelir ASD), which I got from ptuning for $100 off - and maybe even some new Monroe struts tomorrow.
This morning I called a bunch of local shops (including a dealer!) for a estimate on an installation for ONLY the lowering springs. They ALL said the same thing: $550-$900 for labor . Maybe I'm naive because I'm new at this and not at all handy, but dammit - that seems like a LOT of money. I've been fortunate to still be working in a great job, so I don't mind paying a couple of hundred bucks at someone that does quality work (for something I surely can't do), but does five to seven hours sound accurate?
Some said, "yeah - it's a huge job - we have to bleed the brakes," while others said, "you don't need to bleed anything - they're just trying to rip you off..." The dealer even said, "you know, the body style of your xB makes brakes wear-down faster. you might want to get them replaced ..." (It should be noted that I have less than 15,000 miles on my box)
Anyway, I guess this is a rant and a plea for insight/suggestions. Thanks in advance to all that respond!

You can do it yourself in about 3 hours with basic hand tools and a spring compressor on loan from the auto parts store.
You could also see if there is going to be an install party in the area and they may be willing to help you out.

i got quoted $200 for my tc,
but i did it myself instead. I order spring compressor from Ebay. And went to Sears to buy a break bar and few sockets. Got $15 off opening a Sear card.
I am slow at doing things, it was my first time changing spring. Took me 6hr.

Do not pay that amount of money for that kind of work. It literally takes me about 1.5 hours to swap springs. The worst part would be taking apart the struts without a impact wrench. You wouldn't even need the spring compressors if you had access to one.
I'll drive down there and put them on for half of what those shops are asking.

But then I saw your posts when I got home from work, and I thank you all.
Tomorrow, I will PM everyone that offered help, and hopefully come up with an answer to this seemingly-silly spring installation problem soon. And, oh yes, the installer shall be rewarded.
ps - as always, Ian gets beer. Lots of beer.
