Default Naperville putting up more red-light cameras

http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/1...ide27b.article

Behave yourself in west suburbia -- Naperville plans to install new red-light cameras at Route 59 and Diehl Road and Ogden and Aurora Avenues.

The city claims that since red-light cameras were installed at the intersection of North Aurora Road and Route 59, there has been a 33 percent reduction in crashes with injuries.

The suburb also found an 8 percent reduction in rear-end crashes. That counters the complaints of red-light camera opponents who say the cameras increase rear-end crashes because people brake suddenly to avoid a $100 ticket.

The data comes from measuring the first six months of red-light operation compared with the same time period for the previous three years.

Schaumburg earlier this month decided to take out its only red-light camera, near Woodfield Mall, saying it didn't do enough to prevent accidents.

If you stop when the light is yellow like your supposed to then you don't have to "stop suddenly to avoid a red light ticket" these things are all over Chicago, and I have no problem with them. I know where they are, the signs are all over the place, people should be slowing down at intersections anyway, most crashes happen on intersections.

How do these Red light camera's work anyways. Can a license plate flipper or some layering prevent the camera from seeing your plate.
