Default HPD Speeding Ticket Campaign Alert

The individual that sent this works for the City and County....and being circulated by e-mail.
FYI

Be careful --

On 4/10/08, the city and county of Honolulu will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy. The city estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 1 million will go to pay police overtime. There will be 50 police on duty at all times patrolling the 9 main thoroughfares.

They are the following:
H-3 both directions
H-2 both directions
H-1 both directions
Pali Hwy
Likelike Hwy
Nimitz Hwy
Kalanianaole Hwy
Kam Hwy
Farrington Hwy

Now 5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every officer is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 minutes. They have issued 30 brand new unmarked cruisers and they are bringing all their part-timers on full time.

Sounds like another hoax to me. I happen to have lived in Hawaii for some time and I know a few of their laws. One is if you didn't "see" the cop, you can't be ticketed. It's odd but apparently for their 'unmarked' units, they still have to have a blue light on them and if you tell them you didn't see the cop, they can't ticket you. (Supposedly) I never had that happen to me personally, but friends told me that the "I didn't see you" excuse got them out of tickets.

Also, it's against the law to give cops a quota. This comes from way back when they used to have quotas and were pulling people over for essentially nothing.

Never believe anything you get in a mass-forwarded e-mail. It's usually a hoax.

And here's the proof:

Hmm I just got pulled over for doing 55 in a 35 on the Kalanianaole Hwy. (going down a hill, following someone else doing 50)

Cop was really nice though and gave just a warning.

I'm believing it. My friend got pulled over near Kaiser High and she only has a regular (new) corolla.

I'm noticing WAY more cruisers in town. I hate when they have blue SUVs. Hard to tell if they have those low profile blue lights on their roof when they have a roof rack too. I drive slower because of the increased show of force. If others are driving slow it's for a reason.
