Default First time she made me cry.....

Loved everything about the x so far....until this weekend....I know it probably wasn't her fault, but I didn't see any evidence to the contrary....a crack began developing in the windshield...straight from the moulding....no chips....not a scratch on the top of the box at all....just a perfect little (9" now) split from the top of the windshield down.....*sigh*

Dealership had three people out there looking at it....I guess to further bully me into giving up on the fact that I hadn't hit anything, or had anything hit me. Sometimes things just break, I told them.....Maybe you just didn't hear it?

I would think an object hitting the windshield fast enough to split it would be heard....but, oh well....Progressive will take care of me where ToyLewisivlle wouldn't, I suppose.

Oh well.....

I'm just in a bad mood....what a day....

What was the first time your *baby box* made you cry??

Car was about 1 month old. Got rear ended sitting at a stoplight. How can you not see an Orange Box in front of you?

But I was able to get a new Hatch and get the wiper and water spout on the back shaved for pretty much nothing.

2 years now and no Windshield cracks as of yet? (JINX)

The latch was messed up and it wouldn't stay closed so we had to bungee it to the child Teather Anchors to the Back of the seats. I drove it like that for about a week while waiting for hte hatch and rear bumper cover.

Dude welcome to the club. 1 month and a crack develops from the top molding. I handwash and dry it in the evening..."no crack" park it in the garage as soon as I am done...get up get ready to head to work....WTF a crack while sitting in the garage over nite. So I guess the dealership doesn't cover that? huh. Sucks.

I payed in cash, out of my pocket $420.00.
I did not want the replacement window to be the
same crappy quality.
Did not want to do insurance..$250.00 dedectable.
No Scion did not take care of it, sorry your on your own.
Try to get after market glass, made in USA, like 90% of the glass on cars in US. far better quality..just the feel of the glass will convince you.

Yesterday while driving on a fairly empty street, I hear a loud noise..like a rock hitting my TC windshield. I could not figure out where the rock came from. No cars around me. Didn't see any damage at first. Parked, went to work and when I came back, I had a crack from the top moulding, through the little dots and beyond..about 9 inches long and growing. My insurance is sending a truck to my house to replace it. It will cost me $100. This seems to be happening to lots of other Scion owners. In addition to me reporting this to my insurance, I was wondering if I should report this to Toyota. This could be a defect of some kind. Everyone who has had their windshield crack should report it to Toyota even if their insurance is replacing it or they are replacing it on their own.

It's going to come out of pocket, as the crack had already progressed past the longer than a dollar bill stage when I reported to my insurance.....Toyota wanted no part of it.

Does some one want to start a nationwide thread on windsheilds?
It wouldn't suprise me that there are hundreds of bad cracks, etc.

That might help, too...I just called SCION corporate to see if they would assist...their specialist said it didn't sound right the crack coming from the molding being described as a ROCK HIT -- there isn't even any *dent* in the glass....clean crack....*sigh* again....

Anyhow....Team AutoSound need any new wagons to play with? I could use an upgrade

In my case, I heard what sounded like a rock hitting the glass but there was nobody near me. Where would the rock come from? I am thinking that the noise I heard was not from a rock but from the actual cracking near or maybe in the moulding. Usually with a rock hit, you can see the impact area. In my case, there is no visable impact area. When it first happened, I looked for a crack but did not see anything. Then later, I noticed a crack from the moulding and moving down, getting larger by the hour. I think this was a pressure crack which started at the moulding which means "defect".

seems like all a majority of the cracks start from the molding...mine did. i have no rock chips...didn't have a crack in my windshield after handwashing it and storing it in the garage. next morning BLAM a crack. should we report it to the NHTSA or ask Scion to do a voluntary recall or something...

I emailed Scion about what happened to me. I am waiting for their reply. The glass people are replacing my glass tomorrow. I will get their opinion. If they think it is a pressure crack, they will probably notify my insurance and my insurance may not pay it. They may want Scion to pay it and I am sure Scion will not EASILY pay for it. This can get messy.
