Default Need some help around the Houston Area.

Hey guys, I'll be travelling through Houston in about a week (arriving Monday night), and I was wondering if you could tell me what area's are okay to stay a night in, or what one's to stay away from. I will be heading to Bush International, so if possible, I'd like to stay pretty close to that (at least within 30 minutes).

I'll be heading to I-10/610 from IAH (Bush Airport) Tuesday morning so tips on avoiding traffic, if even possible, would be helpful.

I know nothing about the Houston area, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

hmmm....I don't stay around Bush International so I couldn't tell you.....But the fastest way, but I don't know if you're willing to spend a little cash is taking the Beltway to I-10 to 610.....Sorry that's the best I can do...I haven't really lived here long enough to familiarize myself with everything. Good Luck!!!

Anyone else have any ideas....???

To avoid traffic in the morning in Houston is like asking a homeless guy for money, it's not gonna happen. But the beltway, IMO, is going to be your best bet. I-10 is usually pretty congested and 610 is off and on.

Thanks for the traffic tips. I figured 8-10am around Houston would suck no matter what.

I know how to find the airport and hotels around there, I was asking whether or not I should stay there (around IAH), or if there were better suggestions.

I read a review on one hotel where the person left their car out in front of the hotel lobby, only to come out the next morning to find a car completely stripped. I'm trying to aviod that by asking if people have reccommendations as to what part of town to stay.

The last thing anyone of us would want to deal with on a "vacation" is a car broken into. Help a guy avoid that eh?

usually any hotel around the airport is a hot spot for any type of violation. I don't know anyone who lives on that side of town. i live about 30 to 40 minutes away from there depending on traffic. i'll just pm u

I was just about to say the same thing. And most of the i-10 area is a little run down as well. Maybe you can stay somewhere a little outside of Houston...

Even tollway is gonna be JAMMED...becoz i'd assume you obviously dont have the EZtag...so ure gonna queue up that long line for at least 10 mins...and there isnt just one toll u need to go thru...

Ha, Between my car and my apartment, I keep about $10-20 in quarters for those damn coin operated washers/dryers and car washes.

klaricakes: I PM'd you.

I'm thinking either along JFK blvd or somewhere around Humble. I'm not really looking to be in the city, I just want a place to sleep two nights next week.

I hear that. Can't wait to own a home so that I don't have to deal with any of that coin-op sh*t anymore.

On another note, I disagree that you'll necessarily be fine with quarters on the Beltway. Depending on what time you get on you could be in for a rather long stay in the queue. When I first moved here (before I got an eztag) I waited in line for over 20 mins at one toll plaza at about 8pm on a Friday. Personally, I think that you might be better off driving straight down 45 to 610. It'll be stop and go, but I-10 is an absolute nightmare right now.
