Default Rebuilding tC

Hey guys, I just bought a 07 tC with 7400 miles on it from a salvage yard in grand prarie. It's in very good shape for having been wrecked and got it for a nice price as well might I add. Anyway the car is in almost perfect condition from the doors back, no dents, no scratchs (except for one small ding in the drivers side door that I can easily pull and re-paint) but it was hit in the front. The car needs a new front bumper cover (which I already bought) both front fenders, a new hood (although I might be able to reshape it), a drivers side headlight, a grill, and a new radiator (also might be able to fix as well, however)

Anyway I didn't just spill all that out for no apparent reason but I would like to ask if anybody else has rebuilt or worked on a tC before and if they can anticipate any problems that may arise during the work. (I hate surprises) If anyone else has had to work on the radiator or mess with basically any of the front half of the car and know of anything particularlly vexing or annoying that could possibly arise I would like to know before hand if you have any information.

I anticipate this project costing somewhere between $8,000.00 and $9,000.00 including the price of the car. Wish me luck.

Jon-

Oh by the way I also plan on redoing everything audio in the car as well, head unit, all speakrs, amp, and a couple of subs. If anybody has any reccommendations of what sounds best or looks the best in their scion let me know, any help would be appreciated. my budget here is $1,500.00.

Thanks for your help guys!

I hate to state the obvious, but if the car only has the damage you describe, it wouldn't be in a salvage yard. Does it have a salvage title? It's quite possible that the car has more damage than you are seeing.

Believe me when I say this, I have been rebuilding cars for years. I know the damage when I see it, and yes it has a salvage title. And I didn't state that the frame needed a little pulling because it's currently in the frame shop as we speak. There is virtually no damage under the hood other than the radiator (which doesnt even leak) some other bits have moved around a little it's true but that's an easy fix. The extent of the damage has been listed above and that is truly the extent. And if you doubt that i recieved the car from a salvage yard go to www.prestigeautobrokers.com and search for their cars, go to toyota, and if the pictures are still up there look for their only scion tc thats a 2007 (the color is azure pearl). I have been rebuilding cars for years along with my father and grandfather and evertyhing that was stated above is the extent of its damage.

So they want 6,700.00 for the car
Crash bar - 123.21
Front Bumper retainer - 33.12
Fender Passenger - 166.78
Fender Driver - 166.78
Hood - 213.00
Driver Side Headlight - 158.16
Radiator - 384.21
Radiator Support - 310.50
Total = $8,255.76

These are just from looking at the pics, not including the cost of the air bag or the paint that needs to be done.....You must have some serious hookups if you only expect to pay 8-9 grand total. Oh the parts listed above are aftermarket!

If you bought the car for 6700 bucks, then i beleive the best thing to do is part it out, You could make some good money doing that....
Also...it s a kick in th ballzack trying to get a car back on the road with a salvaged Title in Texas

Add airbag(s), spiral cable, center airbag computer, airbag sensors, condenser. latch support, fender liners, clips, splash shields, etc..... and it will add up quickly. Cars are totalled when the cost of PROPER repair will exceed approximately 70% of the vehicles value prior to crash worth. They are salvage for a reason. The only way to save money is to take some BIG SHORTCUTS, most of which will affect safety. I would surely wait to see if the car aligns properly after the pulling. I would suspect it won't. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. Don't risk your safety to save a buck!!!!! Also, check with your insurance company to see what they have to say about writing a policy for you on a car with a salvage title.

Their wanted price was not what we recieved the car for, we have a special dealer discount along with actually lowering their prices, as for the cost of parts we also get the parts at dealers price, the 8-9 grand i estimated was actually confirmed today I ordered all the parts required from the toyota dealership here in town. As for my choice of an automatic, living in a city where I have to go back and forth to work every single day as well as driving people to MEPS (military entracing processing) an automatic is more practical for me. My father has been in the salvage repair business for 25 years and is a respected dealer and salesmen in our area of Texas. When i say the price im getting i know the price im getting, and along with the problems with the car i stated them exactly as they are and all I asked was further input on potential problems not to be heckled and to say im wrong. If you wish to take a first hand look at the car by all means drive here and do so. The problems and prices i have stated are exact and are the only problems. As far as painting and framework goes we do all painting and body work our selves (virtually no body work to be done on this car aside from the small ding behind the drivers side door.) and the frame shop we use is operated by family so it is as well; free. I appreciate any attempted advice that was given but it is obvious that the questions i asked or the advice i have seeked is not available here from people who just wish to heckle and second guess the information that i have offered.

Thank you.

Then if you know all of this why the heck are you on here asking for pricing and help You should have just come out and stated you will gonna get most of it done for free that might have simplified things for some. Best of luck in your endeavor

Wasnt trying to heckle, but I can get body parts at dealer cost and a 330 dollar hood from the dealer with a dealer discount is still going to run you about 260 dollars. I was adding up what i can see and was trying to figure out how you were going to get everything so cheap....Now if you say you are going to do all the frame work, body work and paint..then of course labor will be free, but what about materials???? If you got the car for half of what they asked for it, then maybe I could see it only costing around 8-9 grand to get it back on the road.

You came for answers and didnt like what you heard from everyone. You shouldnt get upset when people have to ask questions in return because you didnt fully explain all the deatails of your situation.

Good luck and post pics when your done!

I've got a totalled Scion tC that I'm looking to find a buyer for. Do you know anybody who might be interested in picking this one up?
