What would having or not having a strut bar have to do with the windshield cracking???

The car is gonna flex irregardless.

Rememeber to trim the bump stop maybe people are bottoming out on lowered b's that could explain why?

but if you've seen it then I guess it is possible.

I have had the b lowered since I bought it. I have no problems other than rock chips but I am just lucky I guess.

Has anybody looked at the production date to see if it is certain batches that are having the problem?

i woudl think it be more of a production batch problem then the existance or lack of a strut bar....
the main thing a strut bar does is keep the towers aligned than limit body roll, sway bars are for keeping the body less flex prone...

this would be the first time i hear of this though if it ends up being true. i would think that more xBs would be coming up with broken windsheilds if it were cause of being lowered.

and if anyone would have this happen to them cause of being lowerd i would think it would be yours kenneth cause i know how megan drives

its stops flex in the front winshield .. yes the car will still flex but not in the area close to the windshield ..

well your kinda right , the strut bar does keep the towers aligned which in turn stops body flex , they however have noting to do with body roll .

Sway bars are what stops body roll , they transfer weight from one side to the other .
the wheel thats lifting forces more pressure to the one thats taking all the force in a turn in turn helps flatten out the body rolling to one side

the added stiffness from the lowering springs causes the front towers to flex or twist more thenl with the softer stock springs and as kenneth said possibly bottoming out the travel if the bump stops were not cut ..

Default Cracked windsheild

Well gang so much for all the angle and tilt and rock chips. Mine cracked four months after buying it.
As I started it up in the morning, no chips, took it to a glass place they said they saw no damage to the glass. The Car dearler preplaced it (after a carney act of taking a knife placing it in the crack wiggling it back and forth and saying or there is a chip)

However I already had a statement from a glass place saying there was no damage. So after a fight they did replace it no charge.

Gee guess what, one month later, another crack in the same place no chips present and the same place as others have reported. Right of the rear view mirrow starting under the molding and running down The exact same plase as the other one and no visable damage. I'm sorry but don't think all this is not with out a pattern that does sound like a problem that has other causes behind it.

It's time for Scion to step up to the plate and fix a problem on a great car.

Default cracked windsheild

You ask has this happened to you o-yes and so much with the angle and rocks mine happened as I was starting it up. Took it to a glass shop and they said no visable damage. Took it to the car dealer the service manager came out (big carney act took a knife stuck it in the crack wiggled it back and forth and said theres your chip) However after a fight the dealership did replace the glass.

Guess what soon after the same thing happened again, same exact spot as reported by others. Just right of the riew view mirror under the molding extending downwards.

Seems like this is a pattern that needs to be addressed by Sicon for a great car.

This car has been around in japan for a while and to my knowledge what I have read nobody over there is having problems like this......it could be two things that are different in the USA vs. Japan: extreme weather and rough road conditions/more mileage on our cars.

Japan does have much nicer roads!

but on another note, and not trynig to stick up for that dealership, many times the crack will apear a few days after a rock hits your windshield. I went through two windshields in Colorado Springs and one time I just watched the crack go across my windshield as I sat there waiting for my truck to warm up....yes I had a chip in my windshield that didn't at first have a crack.....I think anyone in Colorado has many of these same problems due to the fact that the state doesn't put down salt and sand in the winted......they put down ROCKS!........It does sound like there is a problem that needs to be addressed by Toyota about so many people having trouble with these windshields...too many people with the same complaint

just a thought...I highly recommend tweeking your insurance in the future so that they replace it for free!

Well I simply don't expect to have to replace a windsheild every 3 months and if so sorry, to much to pay for a car i do like very much. I can do without the greef and aggrivation. But then I am a old fart and after 45 years of driving have only had to replace one windsheild before with rock damage. So this with out damage happens to bother me.

well I guess I have been unlucky until now had a F-150 that had its windsheild replaced because of rock chips and everybody was saying the samething on the F-150 forums that it spontaneously happened after washing or turning on the heater.....in that case a rock chip that lead to a crack makes sense considering the chip allows the forces of thermal stress occuring either in the rapid expansion or contraction based on the extreme temperature change to crack the glass.....had a CRX that had a windsheild replace.....I have rock chips in the B as lupe pointed out but we had them filled before they spread...
