Default MD Swaybar Install ~Install Pics Pg 2~

Hey folks.

I got my Hotchkis Sway Bars in yesterday and I am looking to get them installed. PTuning will charge me 340 for labor. I was wondering if anyone knew of any place that might install them for less or if that is a decent deal.

I knoq PTuning by reputation only and have heard nothing but good things about them so I know they arent trying to rip me off, just curious if I could get a better install price.

Thanks folks.

Well my dealer wants $315 just to install the front (it's a total PITA), so that's probably not a bad deal for both compared to what I was offered.

the rear bar you can do yourself or have SAP do it, save some money
SAP could probably do the front, but if not id say PTuning is your best bet

hey buddy give me a call and I can help you out on this install. The strut tower one is super easy and there are instructions for the rear one in our tech section. My number is 240-529-8890

Its funny, when I asked for a quote from PTuning over the phone for installing Hotchkis Sway Bars on my tC, he said are these the ones that go under your car or in your engine.

Is their really that much confusion about the difference between sway bars and strut bars?

Also, I would have Sap install the rear, but since I am going all the way down their to do it, I might as well have them do both at the same time. I have heard some things about having only one on and not the other in regaurd to Hotchkis...course I could be mistaken.

strut bars and sway bars are 100% different. strut bars for our cars wont make a difference because the strut tower is so damn close to the firewall, and the only way they would be effective is if the strut bars connect to the strut towers and the firewall, in which none of the market for the tC do.

the rear sway bar is extremely easy to do and should only take you a max of 30 mins to do. when you remove the stock bar, just remember how you removed it, and then you will know how to get the new one in place. i only have a rear aftermarket sway bar, and haven't tackled the front, but i hear it is challenging. so if your not familiar with working on cars (which it appears you arnt), id let a shop do it

I know the difference between strut and sway bars. Also, I plan on having a shop do the install, was merely asking if anyone knew of a better price for the install.

why have a shop do it? its something you can do, plus you can learn about the suspension of your car in the install process. save the $300 and jack your car up and do it. you honestly can do this... its 2 bushings per bar that you replace, and 2 bolts per bar. the hardest part is figuring out hot to remove and replace the bar, and the rear is simple.

i just see paying a shop to do something like that is a waste of money

Well the front one involves removing a sub frame (according to Sap). Im sure the rear one is easy to do. Its the front one that I prolly need a shop for.

The front IS a PITA. I have done one. If you can get a good deal, have a shop do it. Trust me.

I've done plenty of things with my tC that I was totally comfortable with even if they were difficult or tedious... but the front sway is just ridiculous.

It can be done in a few hours and you'll probably be OK if you take your time and have some patience (and have the right tools)... but if you're the slightest bit unsure, don't bother.

I can do both bars in under 40 minutes. That was the first attempt I had on a tC.

My dad is also a tv repairman and he has the ultimate set of tools.

It helps to do it on a lift. This would take a little longer in a home garage.

Yes, it takes quite a while in a home garage. That crossmember doesn't "pull down gently" at all. It's quite the pain in the rear. I've spent the past couple hours under my xB. We got it loose but can't get the bugger out. Time to take a break and leave her until morning.

We're going to try putting the car on the ramps and off of the jackstands to get weight back on the wheels to see if that helps.
