Default Satellite radio options

Ok, my fiance and I both own Scion XA's. I fell in love with them when they were released and drove my 2004 off the lot a few months later. It grew on her a little slower, but she eventually bought a 2005 special edition (had to beat me).

Anyway, some idiot ran a red light and T-boned her 2005 last month. Luckily we got to see the airbags in action. Now that things are settling down and the total loss claim is finished we have purchased a used 2006 scion with 18k miles on it. I'm very jealous of the steering wheel buttons.

The new vehicle didn't come with keyless entry, so first order of business was a trip to Best Buy. Pretty good deals there for a viper vs what carmax was offering for $50 more.

Now that you know my life story, here's the question. We bought a satellite radio kit at the same time but couldn't figure out where to have them install it that wasn't awkward. There is no dash on the Xa to mount it on. The windshield is a little far away for her arms to be able to adjust anything while driving and I'm pretty sure we'd lose the remote. Best option we've decided is to get the "satellite" button to work on her radio by adding the receiver only.

What are the options in receivers? Best Buy said the ones they sell wouldn't work and we'd have to buy the $300 one from the dealer? Now, returning the $200 undockable one with full controls to pay $100 more for one that we would be unable to take out of the car and is only the receiver sounds borderline idiotic. Are there other kits that can be used besides the dealer version? We're looking for XM.

I feel like I'm being punished in options because I own a scion... or 2.

Sorry for being long winded, but it's my first post.

I think I found the answer here: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...ellite+options

I had looked before posting, but apparently hadn't searched for the right thing.

So the only option Toyota has given us is to buy their $300 overpriced kit. I feel punished for falling in love with/purchasing their vehicle.

If I got a new head unit for the same price, would the steering wheel buttons still work and any recommendations for around $250-$300 with satellite receiver installed?
