Rudy Luther Scion Shop Experience
Well, I have been a little harsh on thier service dept in the past. But anytime someone makes a change for the better, I find it only fair to recognize that.
When I first bought my tC from Rudy Luther, I had a very good sales experience, which I soon found to be on of the only good experiences. Installing the options turned into breaking other things.. which turned into breaking more things, etc. I took it there a total of 6 times to have them fix thier own mistakes, only to have them break something else in the car and not even offer an appology. I talked to Kelly in service, who worked to get it taken care of, on top of getting one of the techs she knew to install a set of TRD springs. Springs and install out the door were barely more than the cost of the springs at the time. So a good testament to the sales staff and that tech.. but a horrible experience otherwise. So... to move to the new story with the new service people they have.
At 35,500 miles, I developed a wind whistle somewhere around the windshield (or so I thought) and the hatch struts were getting weak. I taped off a bunch of stuff and drove it, without finding the wind noise culprit. Part of me kept thinking "hey, it is still under the bumper to bumper, just take it in", but with so many bad experiences at dealers going around, and the fact that I never let others work on my cars kept me hessitant.
So I called them. I told them the issues and even stated I wanted to take care of it quickly before the bumper to bumper ran out (hey, I believe in being honest
). The service manager agreed and had me take it in a couple of days later. The tech taped off parts, drove the car and repeated... for about 6 hours while I was at work. Later, the service manager called and said they thought they had the cause. He said he would rather me leave the car there until the parts came in (two days) so they could keep the ticket open. That makes it much easier for them to get re-imbursed by toyota. He offered me a car for the time I was out the tC. I have two other cars (one for the fiance, the other my trusty old saturn) so I told him no problem and that I could just drive my other car. No reason to waste thier money for no reason. The parts came in and they fixed the car right away. The culprit was strange.. the front seals on the hood were causing the whistle. He replaced them and it went way as well as replacing the hatch struts. They appologized for taking so long to find the issue, at which I was suprised. Hell, it was a strange thing to be causing it!
The main point is that they kept me in the loop, did not try to blame something else for the issue, and actually burnt a day trying to find the issue rather than giving the old "could not reproduce" argument.
Anyway, not a huge deal, but it seems that they have done a lot to turn around thier service dept experience, so I feel they deserve a good word for doing it. Especially with all of the horror stories normally coming from dealer warranty issues.

You might want to add this ^^^ to the dealer experience review section located here:

Also don't forget to comment also on the survey when you get it.
That's a good dealership to be around in.

Thanks, engifineer! I happened to be walking through the garage when your car was being taped. I asked what was happening. The tech said he was *determined* to find a whistle. I'm glad he did.
Thank you, too, for posting a positive experience here. It is appreciated way more than you'll ever know. I'm going to make sure they see your posting in service.
Anybody else have a good experience, don't be shy!
Happy Driving!

Interesting review. I have had some recent issues I wanted to bring up to the dealer, but am afraid. Mainly because of your last problem and mine. When I took my xB in for a strange exhaust rattle. They wouldnt fix it and voided my warrenty on the exhaust area for a bolt on axle back. Turns out, the exhaust shop fixed it for $20. The culprit, over torqued fastener piece between the axle back and the midpipe....by the dealer from the last time I had it looked at.
So now I've been afraid to go to the dealer. But after reading that, I might just swing in and have my concernes looked at.
1) rust on the driver side a pillar
2) never got my parts in for the warrenty work on the gas tank. Still need to get that done, if its not to late. Filling the tank in sub degree temps one click at a time is a cold cold pain lol
3) I need an oil change asap

I just got a thing in the mail from Walser Toyota for a FREE oil and filter change... I wonder how they got my address?
And nano - it probably has nothing to do with the CASHIER!

Of course Rudy Luther is my preferred - I love their new service dept. I think the manager likes when I come there because a) he loves what I've done to the car and b) the only things I can get done there anymore are little things like rotating tires and oil changes because I've pretty much blown up my warranty with extreme prejudice.

Good to hear positive things about the place where my tC will pretty much be going to for a lot of things.
I got a chance to see the shop and it is very nice and clean. I think they have like 35 lifts or something.
But I will be sure to let you all know how my experience with the service dept. will be once I get my s/c installed.
I hope all goes well, and that Streeter's car will be seeing my exhaust pipe. j/k

Speaking of gears and Rudy Luther - anybody know how much it is to drain and fill transmission if I have my own fluid? It's such a PITA for me to do it at home. I picked up some Redline MT-90 and that should help smooth out the shifting some.
This pertains because I'd bring my car to Rudy Luther, based on engifineer's and my own experiences.
