I think the votes are leaning towards option number one. I'll wait a few more days so we can get a few more votes in before I purchase the domain name.

I have a few different ideas for sponsorships. For basic sponsors we can have a dedicated page which lists all of our sponsors and contact information, links to websites and such. FOr medium sponsors, on that page we have have a small profile about the sponsor describing their business and their participation in the club, and then we can have elite sponsors which can have their name featured other places on the site or even in our logo.

Anyone have any other ideas?

hey josh, we need to butt heads. I've been building the site up every chance I get. I'm still far off from finishing it. I'm making a custom Content Management system since I'm not familiar with joolma. If you can help in anyway, PM me.

Database 100% complete
Art/Images 0% <- need pics of cars people!
Posting works with comments
Events works with roll calls
garage works - each user gets a garage to show off there car(s)

as for the layout, I was thinking of a graffiti theme since it fits well with the scion brand. What do you guys think, what theme should we have?

I like this one (but with not as many boxes) but any of them is fine.

dont worry about downloading the html and css file for the layouts. Just make a layout one and I can do the rest.

Main page needs:
Banner, ad box, event box, picture box (photo of the month or whatever), news box. If you need help, I have photoshop also, but I do more coding than layouts

I will have a design to submit as well. Last night I decided I'd like to get more involved with Scikotics, so I guess this would be a good start! If nothing else it will open some doors for more options and ideas.

I think there should be a slight revision to the banner section of the site layout spec you came up with. Standard banner size for a leaderboard-type ad is 728x90 pixels. Even though smaller, they are still more intrusive and can make the overall layout top heavy. I'd suggest that if we are going to be getting actual sponsors for this web site we should consider an alternate layout with a space for a standard banner ad size, which is 468x60.

Is there a vector graphic available for the Scikotics psycho guy? Also where is this going to be hosted? I am quite familiar with the apps that GoDaddy offers with their hosting plans. (They even come with their ECONOMY plan, which I would say is as much as we'll need for now... and hosting + domain for my own site cost $70 for two years.)

i hve both the logo and sciko guy in large TP BG images... they can be easily turned to vector in illustrator W live trace ive just never got around to it... ill modify the banner like you said in my new version... what your e mail chris... ill send you the pics

 

I did not put any ad space in the layout (which I should have done, all that will be added with code. As far as the normal ad size, it wont matter as it will be put between the banner and event/sponsors box. I had the idea of sponsors and ads as two separate things.

my idea was that sponsors helped us in certain ways (pay for hosting/events, discounts on products, etc). Ads (e.g. google adsense) with help pay for host and events.

for sponsors, We'll create banners, so it fits our dimensions, for them. Or they can create them themselves and send them to us. The size of the sponsor box isn't going to be the full banner for them. I'm going to make it so when you click on it, It brings the user to a page that show a full banner, info about them and how they have helped us.

from what I read, I think you thought that the banner is where the ads are going to be placed, is that correct?

Also josh, for the banner, dont worry about that. I'm going to create something.

few things need to be done:
need to add some space between the "scikotics minnesota" and the Events/Sponsors for ads (google ads, sponsor ads, etc)

Whats the difference between sponsors box and ads?:
- sponsors that have helped us get good recognition, hence the sponsor box
- ads with display random ads, nothing to do with sponsors (but sponsor ads can show up in there also)

White spot is for the main content, whatever section your at (news, photo, chat, etc), thats what will be displayed there.
