Default Dealership service carelessness

I took my tC to the dealership service department yesterday for a routine oil change and tire rotation. Because I don't like to take my car for service when she's dirty, I washed her and even Windexed the windows. When I got her back last night I didn't think to take a walk around her to make sure everything was alright, and there wasn't much daylight left to see anything anyway. So out in the direct sunshine today I noticed nick marks in two distinct places on my passenger-side door. Needless to say, I'm p!ssed! My tC is IIP so the marks are very noticeable. I also noticed that my passenger-side window is dirty and streaky (Which I know it was not before because I freakin' Windexed the windows!). I can't prove that the service department did this to my car because they'll just say that I must have done the damage on my way home yesterday, or some excuse like that. I'm just frustrated because of course all cars need regular maintenance, and there's no way to be sure that the freakin' idiots that work on your car won't be careless when you hand your baby over to them.

I just needed someone to vent to . . .

Feel your pain...

I do everything myself now, solely for the reason of my paranoia about lame dealership service....

Same thisng happened to me but worse. Got my car back with a paint scratch, a gauged rim and tire, and my passenger A piller has a scrape in it. I am seeing them Wensday about it. They are a good dealership so I am not too worried.

I opened it my self and found the screw missing. I called them and they ordered a new one. they are still a bunch of jackarses. I do the work my self now...

Now they want me to come back so they can instal a part on my sunroof - they never told me before-hand like "Hey, by the way, we ordered a part for you sunroof because *blah blah* so you'll need to bring your car back to us again in a few days." I don't even know what the freakin' part is for! I don't wanna go back.

the part the dealership is refering to is regarding the sunroof recall. they are going to put a piece of invisible film on the interior side of the little pop up part of the sunroof.
when you go back i would complain & mention the chips in the door at the end of the service.

Take a play from the rental cars and U-Haul's gameplan:

Get a simple line drawing of a tC and make copies with a left/right view and a top down view. have the Service Advisor note any damage on the vehicle and sign it. Upon your return, check for any new damage that's not listed on the sheet...

It may get the point across that you care about your vehicle.

My dealership/service center does a "walk-around" where you and a tech walk around your car as soon as you bring it into the shop, and he/she notes down any knicks or dents. The guy marked nothing down as I walked around with him (even though there is a few slight blemishes/knicks in my baby's paint). Thats why I figured when I saw the new knicks (because they're so slight) the dealership wouldn't admit to them. Now I'm just afraid to take her back to get my sunroof fixed. I don't want any MORE knicks, no matter how slight they may be.

when they do the walk around this time see if he marks the knicks down, if he doesnt then a the end of this next appointment to do recall part point out the new chips & old & go over your car thoroughly before leaving. have them fix it

People think I'm crazy for not trusing dealers. This is the very reason those "Free" oil changes will never be used. LOL

That's a damn shame. Whenever I used to work on other peoples cars. I used to treat them better than my own. It wasn't worth the hassle having comebacks and angry customers. I guess most techs don't really care anymore. Sad

It's not just dealers. I had a friend that took his new tC in for tint and got the car back with scratches all over it. How that happens only the A$$ that did it knows.

i also have had problems with my car.. i took it in for the second free oil change, when it comes out i do the walk around and dont see anything.. then when the next day comes and its shining outside i see a nice little nick in my drivers side door.. did i do it, UHH HELL NO, so i was ____sed, i didnt do anything though, too much of a hassle.

anyways, try doing everything yourself, oil changes are easy, and rotatin tires is even easier.. always try to avoid the dealer, most mechanics suck @$$ nowadays, they have no care for your car.. ( their are those that do care, like the guy above)
