Default Forced Induction and NJ

Has anyone out there had any experiences with the "street legal" aspect of turbo'd tC's? I was wondering if a kit was to be installed without CELs would it pass emissions in New Jersey? I know there are shops which accept money for a sticker but I really wanted to know whether or not the turbo tC would pass inspection at a normal DMV? Thanks Guys.

I don't think that any of the turbo kits out there really are street legal, since they replace the header. Normal DMV inspections will gig you for pretty much anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but im pretty sure that most cars (with the exception of the tC) has the cat along the exhaust system, not directly mounted to the headers. I think someone said before in the FI section that you can add a cat to you system and it will pass emissions, but if a cop who actually knows his crap checks it out, they could bust you pretty hard for it.

There ya go, this was found in one of the greddy turbo threads.

Yeah. Removing the stock header = removing a cat. tC's have 2 cat's - one in the header, and one in the midpipe.
Remove any of them and you're SOL.

Im not sure. I would imagine no, condsidering how all that is doing is fooling the ecu. If I'm not mistaken, when they test the cat, isn't that when they put the hose over your exhaust and test to see if you have it that way? I dunno, if this makes sense. Posting at 2 in the morning is a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad move.....

Im not sure if NJ is the same as NY, but the tC won't fail the visual inspection with just headers. When the ECU is read, and yuo have the anti-fouler trick, the cat that was in the headers should come up clean. The next thing they do ishook up the vaccum to the exhaust, and if your car is clean enough, then it passes inspection.
