Default MA Supercharger Install

Hey I called my dealer in the Springfield area and he gave me an absurd estimate for the installation of a supercharger. Anyone have one installed, and if so from where and how much? I'm looking for a better service department than the one in my dealership. Thanks...

If they charge over 7 hours labor, then they have no clue what they are doing and are ripping you off.

The labor is from toyota it is 6-8 hours, and the posted labor cost at the dealership. Make sure to get it done at the dealership because it will keep your engine in the five year/60k mile powertrain warranty, if you do it outside, the supercharger is only warrantied for 12 months, and with it being a fairly new product I would get it done so you can have that long protection, I have it on mine, and our mechanic did an awesome job on it, all superchargers that are quality cost the bucks, if they said something like ten grand then they are in left field but if they said something closer to 4 grand with it all installed or even a little over they are on the target, pending their labor cost.

Sorry man but that is not true. If anyone else besides toyota does it, you still for a 100% fact keep your cars 5 year 60K mile powertrane warranty. All that having the dealer install it does for you is extends the superchargers warranty to the remainder of what is left on your factory warranty. For example, if you have 30K miles on your car, then all the dealer installing it does is add 18K miles to the sc warranty over you or a mechanic doing it.

Wow, I really hope thats the truth desertheat because at the end of the day I might not care as much as I thought I would. Also, I know this has been discussed but just so I can be clear, if I purchased the supercharger through TRDSparks for example and didn't open the box at all, would I still get the same deal on the warranty as you just described?

does not matter if you open the box. If you have the dealer install it then it "your supercharger" will have the remainder of your powertrane warranty. I had to get this all clarified through my toyota regional rep because my dealer was feeding me a line of bs which I smelled a block away.

sorry to break it to you desertheat, but you heard me wrong, the supercharger if installed by the dealer will be warrantied for the 5 years 60k miles, I am talking about the part only, so a person can order the part from a different place, but it should be installed by the dealer so the part itself can keep the longer warranty instead of 12 months. IamProdigy, I would def get it installed by a scion dealer, but it does not matter where you get the part. The labor time will be 6-8 hours. If you install it at a speed shop the part will only be warrantied for 12 months, you will not void the 5 year powertrain, but if you get it installed at a dealer the warranty on the charger will coincide with your 5 year or 60k powertrain.

i got a couple estimates also.

Rt 44 toyota/scion is doin it for $3750 installed (with a coupon lol)
Copeland is a little bit more about $3900 together, but after what i experienced with both dealerships i think i would pay the extra to have copeland do it because, the people at RT44 cant even get the rear bumper applique on right (and it took the 3 tries and it still sucked so they did it 1 more time but sent me to a body shop lol)
and the supercharger seems a little more important and detailed than that so...

EDIT: i am not bashing RT44, they have good customer service, and they have been trying to help me with my last car (tho i think they could have done more to get it resolved faster). its just the service/parts department. i dont 100% trust the techs they have there. im sorry if u work there but its true. they took almost 2 hours to install the lip spoiler on my first tC and about 1 hour on the rear bumper applique EACH time, and like i said before it came out horrible huge bubbles each time. the body shop i took it to the last time did the rear bumper applique in litterally 20 min and that was cleaning the rear of my car lol. i stood there and watched them do it. and it came out PERFECT. so... unless i saw a mechanic that worked there that has a certicate or something showing that he knows what hes doing installing the S/C, i dont think i would feel entirely comfortable taking my car to them for that. plus they dont really know a lot about scions its more of a toyota dealership and they just sell scions. unlike copeland who has scion reps that actually know something about the cars. i knew more about the scion brand (not just the tC) then almost all of the sales people/ manager/ service/ and parts people there. and i dont know a lot lol. another example is that they (RT44) didnt know of any differences in the 05's and 06's NONE my first 06 came with the 05 radio and i told them that i want the 06 radio and that i baught an 06 not an 05 lol. they told me that there was no difference in the radio just the audio controls. at that point i started laughing and said "wanna put money on that?" my salesman (very nice and each time i go there he greets me and shakes my hand and asks how the car is runnin) asked the sales manager and he told me the same thing (no diffence between the 2) then i took them to the computer an showed them both looked puzzled, then they offered me a job lol

I actually did, and I just came back from there since I needed to get the factory recall stuff taken care of for my wind deflector. I talked to the service manager and got a few things straightened out. First, I can buy the supercharger from anywhere and so long as they install it at the dealership I'll get the warranty. That was good news so I went from 3200 to 2850 for parts. Next I asked about the tools since they were intially going to charge me for the reflash kit. They said I did not have to pay for that part so that takes another 435 off their quote. Finally I asked about labor referencing the TRD 6-8 hour estimate. They said that was accurate and it would cost around 600 for labor. That's the kicker right now. It just seems like such a high figure. All in all we're talking 3450 for everything.

Lia Toyota in Wilbraham, MA. I talked to them about the tamper proof cap too and said if I get it installed I won't want that part put on. They replied that it wouldn't pass inspection cause of emissions to which I countered that I'd take care of that with Unichip or Emanage. In the end, they said they could leave off the cap, but I wasn't sure how they would react if there was ever a problem with the pulley, should I choose to change it out (which will be a definite). I hope they don't make a note of it for the install so I could change it out and try to pull the wool over their eyes.
