does anyone know what radar bands that the police used in NY, or know of a website where i can find that info? i just got a valentine one, but since there's a lot of false alerts, i'm trying to figure out if there are certain bands that i can shut down if they're not in use.
State Troopers primarily use Ka, and tend to leave it on even when just driving. Ocassionally I'll get a laser alert from them but it's only happened twice and it was a speeding sting. Local cops use K, Ka, Laser and I guess potentially Lidar, I doubt any are still using X, maybe some rural local cops with a small budget may still use it.

Got caught even with a detector. Deputy was sitting in the divider and would turn on the radar just long enough for it to register a car and he hadn't done the cars in front of me.
Got a speeding ticket because he saw me slow down when he turned on the radar - said that told him I had a detector.
Different philosophies in different places I guess.

I'm a longtime V1 user.
NY: Ka and Laser. Never had a visual bogie positive on any other bands. You will get false positive Laser around NYC tunnels.
NJ: Strictly X. I have picked up Ka bogie's on NJ-TPK twice and Laser once, however only X is admissible in NJ court. They use contant on and you can pick it up about 4 miles out.
K bands for radar in most states are avoided due to K-band saturation for Pop-mode on most cheaper radar detectors. Junk mode detection works about 20% on the latest V1, so expect most K band to be other radar detectors with Pop-mode on or radar assited cruise control on highways (S-class, etc).
Also, be aware that many of the newer LED tailights will throw short false laser positives if youre trying to figure out what the hell those random laser blips are. These things are wicked sensitive.
The price of a Ka vs. K band guns is almost negligible so you will see most states use Ka or Laser nowadays.

this x band false alerts are driving me insane-even in logic mode. i friggin hate it. everytime i drive by supermarkets, shopping centers, malls, etc, the thing goes crazy. in one spot, i get the x band going nuts, and the number reads 6. the v one goes crazy beeping and brapping and whatever else it does. since i do mostly ny driving, i think i'm gonna shut down the x band.

It's almost second nature now to mute the V1 whenever the pattern resembles a door or stray signal, or i know i hit that signal every day.
I lived around NYC, Hoboken for 5 years so what I always did was used advanced-logic at a very low mute around 10%, and maybe 30% volume around town. During driving I use All-Bogie mode with 20% mute and full volume.
Beleive it or not, the V1 has the best logic modes out there, because it won't hide a true positive unlike just about every other mode out there. The logic can only be based on signal strength, duration and patterns, so of course as auto-doors get more advanced they look more and more similar to radar guns.
In the south they like to crank up the dorr signal strengths and you will get full resolutions of X-K-Ka bands that are friggin auto-doors.
