Ben, after wet sanding I just use polishing compound (Dupont, available at Wal-Mart or most everywhere), then Mother's Pre-Wax Cleaner which is essentially a mild polish also. Last step is wax, and I use Mother's Carnauba.
I've also done some just with the pre-wax cleaner, skipped the polishing compound - either way works.
Jamie just bought a set of tinted tails off me on Sunday - you can ask him how good they look. I haven't tried the 3M pad he suggested, but the stuff I use is available most anywhere, don't have to go to a specialty paint store to get it. Just a suggestion.

i want to tint my tails a little more. i skipped almost every step. i just cleaned and sprayed. the tails have a very bumpy ext. so wetsanding would've taken forever

hmmm.... i dunno about tinting headlights since it'll be pretty much permanent (of course you can remove it but it'll take some work)

smoked overlays would be better since you can remove them easier if you decide you dont want'em smoke anymore. I have the ones from RockBlocker but the light output is significantly decreased. I have HIDs but it looks like halogens.

thats how dark they are and thats the picture taken befor both of them were done and i didnt take the tape off the reverse light on that tinted tail. Both need to b wet sanded and the buffing compound. Those are the del sol tails figured it would b better to start on something i can mess up on

I expect that light output would be reduced on the headlights - it is on the tails, but obviously that's a whole different ballgame. It looks good, but I think it would be a cop magnet, in addition to the output reduction. I wouldn't do it, but that's me.
There's a thread in PPC though, somebody looking to trade tinted/overlayed headlights for stock - I can find it if you're interested.

so true, i tried to do it at 1am. if you heat them up they are much easier to work with. I found this out when I left the film on the headlight (lights were one) while i went inside to get a hairdryer. the lights made the overlays easier to work with. One looks nice but i messed up a little on the driver side. there is a ripple on the edge that doesnt stick anymore.

off topic.... but does anyone know where they sell P.I.N.K vodka?
