Default 680 to 880 uneven road

I'm sure lots of people go on this road to do the 680/880 switch. For the most part, it's never smooth. Well today, I am heading westbound towards 880. I guess there is a part of the road, after you cross the Warm Srings intersection, that is uneven. Needless to say, my stretched tire/exposed lip was owned bad. Both rims on the passenger side look as if I curbed them.

I was in the middle lane. Stick to the inside lane if you are rolling through there.

Just figure I would send out a warning..

the only thing you can do about it is talk to cal trans and get the necessary paper work and i would suggest taking pictures of where it happened. a guy in my car club just got all new wheels because hwy 24 was messed up. unfortunately they'll probably just look at that and say you did hit a curb, either way driving around the bay definately sucks.

Where does 680 and 880 switch? 680 will switch to 280 when it crosses 101 but 680 and 880 never touch. I drive 680 everyday from Montaque to 580
That is why it pays to have tires that are as wide as your wheels

if you're going southbound on 680 you will see a sign that says take warm springs district to 880. you cruise through a little strip then catch 880

It's like deflaytedwayz1 said, it's just a small hop over from each freeway. If you are headed back home on 680, it's the 1st Mission Blvd exit you see.

I guess it's MY fault then my rims are f*&%d up??

Hey dude, Tom is just kicking reality. When you roll on stretched tires & exposed rims; you are gambling when driving on these roads in the Bay.

Trust me as an xB owner with 93k miles (mainly from Bay Area travel), I made the switch back to the stockers.

At least the rim isn't bent. Look at Junior's post about Wheel Techniques. They do great work and can have that rim looking brand new again.

I too have driven bay area roads for the past 15 + years, so I know the roads aren't the greatest. Mainly for potholes more so uneven surfaces. ( most of the time signs are posted if roads are uneven )

What sucks, is that I have had 3 sets of rims for a Civic, 1 set for an 96 S-10, 2 sets for a 98 Acura CL, and these are the first ones that have got messed up. Out of the previous 6 sets, I never curbed them once.

Even though I have a stretched set up, I think someone w/ 17's or 18's might have had similar damage. The surface uneveness was pretty significant. So, IF you are hopping over from 680 to 880 using Mission, be careful.

That was the main reason for this post. An FYI.

Hah! Yeah, literally.

Sometimes I just don't get how Cal Trans (or their sub-contractors) can get away with leaving 1" plus differences in road surface height. That is what cracked my rims. You'd think they would have to put some pavement down to ease that transition. How many cars nowadays get the DOT approval with 45 series tires or less? I just don't get it.

Just an update..

Went through the same area Friday morning, and it's all fixed now. Atleast if you are going FROM 680 TO 880.. Took them a while to get it fixed but it's nice, flat, and EVEN. LOL.

I cleaned up the rims pretty good and they don't look too bad.

I am going back to a 15" rims, so I already ordered my next set. Work Equip 01's! WOOT!! I'll be selling the 17's pretty soon.
