my 2¢
Dave Gilley (sp) at Stevens Creek Toyota did my SC install.
He is a true mechanic and a heck of a nice guy.
Sure it was a bit pricey, but I'd rather pay for a real mechanic to do the work, than pay slightly less for some hack 'parts replacer' to 'give it a shot'.
Again, just my 2¢.

oh no doubt i would love to give the job to dave gille, but the fact that the shop charges $1700 for the install, isn't making me hop in my car right away to drop her off. and hearing people with lower install prices at other dealerships

I do the S/C on the tC for $400 but you'll still have to get it flashed at the dealer for about $160

a little out of my way to get there, but man $400 is a steal to get an S/C installed.

Winds up costing exactly as much as I paid at the dealership.

catch is that the car can not be driven after the super charger is installed, and before the ECU is flashed. So you would need a flatbed truck or a tow truck to get your car from that shop to the dealer. Also you would need to arrange so that when the install is finished that the dealer can flash your ECU for you.

x2 that is exactly why I recommended Dave to him earlier, but Dave can not control the shop costs.

Well, technically, you "could" drive it from your house to the dealership without triggering pre-det, but you would need to drive there like you were senile, anemic, blind, deaf, and paralyzed i.e. keeping it under 3000 rpm or maybe 2500 to be safer.

There have been people who said they've driven their self-installed SC'd tc's without doing the reflash with no problems. But that's a horrifically bad idea.

Either that or you will spend all of that money in Vegas J/K hope you have fun in Vegas, and best of luck with the install. A good question to ask will be if there is a master toyota technician at capital toyota, and if there is, hope to god he is the one working on your tC.

Well yeah, I mean if you wanted to drive your car while sleeping you could, but its a bad idea Many people have theirs towed to the dealer for the re-flash, I can't think anyone would think it is safe to drive without the reflash.

One thing you might want to do SoulXquisite, is fill up premium prior to the install, or use octane booster. Even if you are going to a dealer for the install, before the install get as much of the regular gas out as possible and fill up with premium (my dealer didn't warn me about that, so I had to pick up octane booster prior to leaving the dealership with my car.)

-anyone around san jose know how reputable tech3 is? i ran into a buddy of mine while we were at auto class the other day and he told me they would do the install for it for baout $300-$400, not bad half the price of what the cheapest dealership offered, just gotta get the reflash which isn't too far away from the auto mall, but yeah do these guys do good work? or should i not take the chance and just fork over the extra money and know its being done right?

^That has nothing to do with the cost of an install. Even if he went turbo & didn't know how to install it, it'd cost the same (install-wise).

WOW a sc is a 4-6 hour install or faster depending on the ability of the tech installing it, if they do take that 4-6 time they are charging 300-200$hour labor are you ____ing kidding me, This is why toyota repair/install bays never get business from me they overcharge like crazy, a local shop qouted me $400 to install the s/cer but that would be w/o the reflash.

weezyfbayba - i would, but with how turbo is not legal in california, im trying to keep my car legal as much as possible.

-kiss kiss - your right about the cost of installs, would virtually be the same for both.

-nightbeat- yeah, a 4-6 hour job seems about reasonable. I don't think is should take more than 8 hours for god sakes.

-mrsanchez825 - modacar huh? i wish i wasn't at work today so i can call them, but then again i don't think they would be open on a sunday.

-well i picked up my S/C from my buddies house (where i had it stashed since i don't have room at my house) Imma try to haggle the price down. eh its just sitting here doing nothing. i barely got enough money to cover the install, but ill see what i can get. Only reason im taking it to a dealership is to not have to transport my car to a dealership to get reflashed and because that some dealerships have had prior experiences installing a S/C before. I was hoping for $913 for what they quoted for me before, but the change from 1200 is a big change in a month.

-the idea of taking it to sacramento (miata toyota right?) to have them install it for about $900 sounds good too. I do have a day off comming up and i could just head out there for the day.

-will see, i just don't want a bulky box in my house just waiting. have u seen the box it comes in. OMG its huge.

Yeah they are closed on sundays,

but is the S/C all put together?? and all u need to do is pretty much bolt it on? if its pretty much all together then it shouldnt take them long at all....

If its all in pieces AKA having to assemble the S/C and all that other crap, then it will take them longer then 6 hrs..

also u should still give modacar a call, and try and work out a deal on installing it and having them tow it to a dealership...

its worth a short, cuz it will MOST deff still be cheaper then taking it to a dealer ship.
