Default Panoramic Sunroofs in the xB???????????

So does anyone now of a sunroof installer in the Nor Cal area? We want to have a panoramic sunroof put in the xB. So far we were referred to one in Sacramento by one person at the dealership and it sounded all good, but then the service manager said that they had a serious problem recently with them and strongly suggested that we don't go there. Then we were referred to another installer who says they don't do panoramic sunroofs in the xB because Webasto the manufacture does not recommend it. However I have seen many an xB with this type of sunroof and on the installers web site they show a Honda Element which has a similar roof line with a panoramic in it. So why would the manufacture not recommend it? This is starting to get to be more than it's worth but we are determined to do our home work and find something to fit what we want. Any Info on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx.

I remember reading on here that there is a certain panoramic sunrooof that messes with the integrity of the car, i couldnt find the thread.. but in the same thread they said that the same company would be making one that wont mess with the integrity of the car, not sure when it was due out, but if its not out... i probly wouldnt reccomend the panoramic sunroof until it does come out.

I would also like to know where to get this kind of sunroof but not at the moment cause I've got my Nissan Project cars to work on... but still, I'd like to know too.

I am going to move this to the Pacific Mid region. I do know that the Webasto Panoramic Sunroof was once used, but Webasto called it quits due to structural integrity issues. Was it the 52"?

So problem unsolved. Still looking for an installer, reputable w/long time in business and references. Preferably a member of the BBB (Better Business Bureau). I know it might sound extreme but this isn’t something you give to anyone to do.
Anyway thanx again for your help.

A panoramic sunroof would be pretty hard to do in the xb from what I understand. The body would flex too much because of the metal you would have to take out and maybe crack the glass? Hmmm, maybe if you made sure to have a rear strut bar or a LOT of cross bracing under the car. Or you could build a REALLY beefy frame for the glass but that would take a lot of engineering time.

You have a really good point. Do you by chance have some experience with this type of sunroof? I would not want to do anything that would cause Mickey Mouse engineering to come in to play. But I'm still pressed to make sure that this is not a safe option before giving up. I would like to hear from anyone that might have had one installed, pros and cons.

I've seen the ragtop before. IIRC, Webasto had come out with a properly reinforced version of the 52 inch but I could be wrong...

That looks pretty nice!! I wonder if it works out because you don't have to worry about the body flex breaking glass in this setup.

I saw a box that had two sun roofs--one for the front seats and one for the back--It looked pretty sweet.

I was thinking along those lines but hopeing I could get them for the price of the one panoramiic. Looks like most panoramics are around 1400 installed and standards are 1000-1200.

Daly City Scion had an xB with a sunroof installed pre-delivery. It looked ok on the inside, but the headliner is all messed up after they put an aftermarket sunroof in and it'll only look worse over time. Also, the welds around the exterior of the sunroof look very, very bad. Something tells me, an xb with a sunroof, driven near the ocean, is going to see that sunroof rust off very quickly.

Man I didnt even look at the exterior welds. What should I look for? I mean how can I tell if it looks "bad"?

While I'm no expert, just looking at the edges around the sunroof...they look bad. Granted, they did cut the roof open to put the sunroof in. But all the metal around the sunroof looked pulled up and held in place with glue. In my opinion, it will deteriorate and/or rust much faster than the rest of the car. I wanted a sunroof on my box but...think it's a pipe dream considering the results I saw

Forgot to mention, the cool thing is: the sunroof slides under the roof line (between the roof and the interior headliner), which is nice. My grandfather had a chevy with a sunroof which raised up over the roof of the car and looked odd, not to mention was very noisy in the wind.

I am also looking at getting the webasto sunroof for my xB RS 3.0. The shop up here in Seattle WA quoted me about 2200 for the sunroof and the install. They said they will have to weld in supports to prevent it from buckling, but they still can't guarantee the install.
