Fiberglass help
anyone in the PNW area have experience with fiberglass? We just got a small double hull fiberglass boat, it doesnt have any holes, just needs some re-inforcing in some spots where the hull is thin and was wondering if anyone out here knew how to work with fiber glass and could either give some pointers on how to patch it, patch it for us, or help us with patching, or know of any easy DIY fiberglassing kits. (of course if we asked to have you patch it for us, we would most likely compensate, its not my boat its my parents so i dunno how much compensation they would be willing to offer)
i know they have 'patch kits' and fiberglass materials at boaters world and g.i joes for boats/marine applications... im sure both would be able to give you basic DIY info on it...
and theres always google
and theres always google
kinda think its easy... just clean/prep area per directions... brush resin on... stick on fiberglass material.... brush on more resin to coat/cover/soak.... let dry and sand, and as they say on shampoo bottles "rinse and repeat"
probly lots more to it... but think thats the basics

^ hehe, yea i figured fiberglassing with a preform is pretty easy, opposed to making your own fiberglass design...I've watched quite a few "custom car" shows such as "Street Customs" and "Unique Whips" and it seems easy enough...its just the custom forming that gets tricky
i'm not any help - i wish i knew how to do fiberglass work (someday)
but the other guys can probably help ya & it's just time consuming more then anything from what i have heard

you know what they call a boat with a hole in it.......an anchor......lol........wish I had a boat.....i miss mine.......it became an anchor in gig Harbor.....made the newspaper when it sunk......the picture was super funny as it was taken from a helicoptor and at low tide you could see all the beer cans and bottles on the bottom......yes we were awful youths, the bill to clean it all up was huge, but a guy bought the salvage on the boat from us and we used the money to pay the fines......
Is the hole in the hull easy to get to from the inside of the boat? How bad is the damage? I could fix it for you if you get the materials, I'll take you up on the beer offer... I have the fiberglass tools around someplace. Just let me know.
