Getting turbo installed where?
Hi,
I am new to this area ( I'm up near Redmond ), and I was thinking of getting a Turbonetics turbo. Does anyone know a place that will install it at a fair price and reliably? I have a hard time trusting just anyone to something like that, because I'm sure an install done wrong can totally screw my car up. Any suggestions appreciated!! Also, does anyone know what the fuel economy is after you turbo the tc? Thanks!

You can read up on economy in the F/I Section... You lose a bit for sure...
The turbonetics is the most expensive one out there, so be prepared, as the kit is only the beginning of the money you need to spend... Guages/clutch/flywheel/timers/etc... are all on top of it... plus a decently large install price.

Boo. I want to get that turbo kit... haha. It is expensive $5k or so.
Good luck on the kit and everything! If you could,.. you should post up how well it makes your car go,.. I really want to see how it runs for the future,.. 2-3 years then I'll get one,.. he he on my auto.
GOOD LUCK!
GOOD LUCK!

I'll have my kit up and running here soon enough to discuss and play around with... I prefer the ZPI route, as I can build up over time and it uses the emanage aspect, rather than the restricted unichip... and is quite a bit cheaper...
Soon enough we'll have a turbo tc to take a close look at and play with... just waiting on the final details... as mine is a bit unique to finish up.

Hmm,.. Tim,
You'll be who I go to for info when I choose to make drastic changes to my car,
especially when it comes to engine mods...
I'm scared that I'll put something in that'll mess it up, or is a bad choice.

i'll be the mean one here...
yeah a jacked up turbo install will screw up your engine... somewhere along the lines of destroying it... not to mention it will most of the time destroy itself in the process... and like was priorly mentioned... you got a big price tag on the turbonetics turbo kit... also you gotta figure on paying somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 dollars for a few days of dyno tuning once it is installed. oh yeah and lets not forget the beefier clutch/flywheel and all the gauges you are gonna have to buy and install so your car doesnt tear itself apart. the maintenance on a F/I engine has to be very meticulously done... it may be that i am the big F/I nay sayer around here but either way i just want you to know what you're gettin into... do a lot of research (not just about what turbo kit you are buying) about turbos before you take that step or you could end up with a headache that you didnt really know you were getting. something that most companies wont tell you about there turbo is that without tougher engine internals (rods, pistons, rings, wrist pins, crank, valves, springs, retainers, rockers, and potentially sleeves for the cylinders to the tune of $1500 and some change if you are installing yourself) you cant run more than like 7 or 8 lbs of boost... and thats not really a good idea... ask the xB guy around here that blew his engine a few months back on 7lbs (i think). like i said i just want you to know what you are getting into before you take that step. oh yeah and i heard that turbos on the tC are interesting with the drive by wire system... i guess we will see for real when tims is done.
because I'm sure an install done wrong can totally screw my car up

Yes, more or less, but remember, that I do more than the average owner in regards to work, maintenence and knowledge... so putting too much play in what I do, compared the the normal owner may be a little off.
I can definately, and will definately share my experiences in the world of F/I, but of course, I'm aware of the risks and more than willing to rebuild an engine if anything speedbumps... I'm taking a stepped and slow approach to the whole world of F/I, so it'll be a good learning experience for us all to see how the building goes and what it can look like.

Oh, didn't think so....
Just saying that I don't want to mislead people into thinking it's super easy, or cheap... I do my research, buy what is neccesary to ensure the best safety, and ALWAYS sign off on the fact that the consequences of whatever I do could cause me to have to really get my hands dirty
I agree that F/I is jumped into way too commonly by those who have no business in it... especially here... but believe that if you take a simple and stepped approach, that risks can be minimized and the learning curve smoothed out. That's my plan
Heck, give me a couple months, and I'll help with anyone elses turbo install and will surely have a dyno friend to get us all tuned up.
