Getting a WA license
Hi,
I just recently moved to Bellevue, WA, and I'm thinking about getting a WA license. (I'm currently holding CA license)
I am just curious if they take away your CA license and void it when you get the WA license, or do you retain both of them?
Also, does WA license only have 1 type that allow you to ride any vehicle? Such as a motorcycle?
Thanks!

You have to be endorsed to ride a motorcycle or drive a large truck.AS for the CA liscense they do not cancel it to my knoweldge as I had mine for several years after I came back to WA form San diego.

I recently got my Washington license in exchange for my California license. The procedure was as follows:
- Go to DOL (Dept of Licensing) - there are no DMV's here! (Which was weird to me, too)
- Bring necessary documents. (Proof of identity, proof of residency, proof if citizenship - List can be found here: http://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/moving.html)
- Costs $45 for the regular Class C license
- No, they do not take away your CA license, but they do punch a hole in it, which notes it is no longer "valid"
- Because my California license was still valid (not expired) I did not have to take a written or driving test
- You take a picture - and they give you a print out of your temporary license
- You receive your actual license in the mail about a week or so later
If you need to show ID before you get your actual license, you have to show your temporary paper license AND the hole-punched CA license. They will NOT accept either/or!
Hope this helped!

I had to get mine and they would have punched a hole in my Guam license.... but I lost it that day... darndest thing but the bugger turned up a few days later.
And Cynce is spot on, that's the procedure you go through.

Wow they punch them now........way back then they did not punch mine........as it was still valid and not expired........guess they changed it to not have too many states one person can have an active liscense in........
