I saw this today on the news. It's about the new enhanced driver's license and says that the passport thing won't be in effect until June 2009. It also doesn't say you need more than a drivers license to cross the boarder.

I remember last time i went to canada and that was in May. It was 11pm and i was by myself and i held out my stuff and the guy said "dont worry about it. go on through" and i was like SWEET! lol

My car gets searched everytime im coming back though

To touch on the drivers license and birth certificate topic. Its helpful to have both but I have crossed the boarder with 3 guys and a 1 girl who only had drivers licenses and they all got through. Its tougher to come back into the US with just a license but after hassling you and probably searching your car they will let you back.

yeah the first time I went up there I only had my DL and was searched both directions and questioned for a good hour or so.

Each time I have been up to Canada as of recent, I have always been asked for Drivers License and Birth Certificate.

Nat - Yeah it's sweet when they are like that.. crossing the boarder at 1am normally gets me across with only a few questions..

"soo, what'cha doin' up in Canada"
"Watching Trains"
"... Uh.. ok...why?"
"It's just a hobby"
"Uh.. right, ok, well you have a good night"

:D

I wonder if you all just looked like punks and they wanted to be sure you weren't giving them a fake ID or something? Probably hoping you don't have more ID so they can make you go visit the immigration office (been there before when I forgot to bring my children's birth certificats - got in after a little talky-poo with a customs agent).

You'd think that this would be clearly listed and mentioned in things like the link I posted and even that news article.

u guys think thats bad? the last 3 times ive gone up there they made me pull over all 3 times.

1st time it was me, my brother, and cousin. my cousin stutters and has a mental illness so when they questioned him they thought he was hiding something. i tried to tell them that and they told me to shut up. basically made all 3 of us take some of our clothes off and patted us down and full car search. spent 4 hours there!!

2nd time i go alone and still made me pull over even though im sure they had my license plate in their database.

3rd time i was probably 200 yards from the border, waiting in line, and some cops made me pull over on the side of the road. searched my car and pulled out a mirror to check under it. stupid thing was that the entire time i was waiting i didnt see them check one single person ahead or behind me.

WTH Infamous425? You must have some sort of record or next to Mo on the terrorist list, lol.

They barely even check our IDs. Guess when your 30 and packing a car full of children, you look very nonthreatening. We only had the kid hassle once and then a U.S. Border guy who damned near yelled at us because we didn't know what city we visited.

I always hope for a little hassle though. I spent a lot of my younger years, fearful of police and car searches. It's nice not having to worry about all that, lol.

Ever see the Canadian version of COPS? I'm pretty sure all I'd have to do if I got in trouble for something is apologize and/or completely talk BS until I wear them down.

Ive noticed that BC area cops dont pull over outta towners. Too much hassle to deal with the different countries and stuff. Ive had quite the fun time from the boarder up north to downtown BC. Its my fave stretch! know that area better than SEattle almost.

PS - hookers in BC drive Corvettes. i think im the wrong line of business down here lol. jk

wow, benefits of being sort of kinda of a dual citizen. I never get hassled. they ask me where in canada my family is from and I tell them and I get in. coming out, they ask how long I stayed and they let me out. I've never had even a slight issue..... ;)

maybe its because i speak Canadian.... ;)
