Someone better tell the traffic engineers in Tacoma, then, that tiny islands with curbs and concrete planters in the middle aren't the 'traffic calming islands' they claim they are in the newspaper...

Here's one...

Is the Swindon roundabout the one that the Griswolds get stuck in during their trip in "European Vacation"?

Nope, that wasn't Magic at Swindon.

Perhaps you remember the scene from "National Lampoon's European Vacation", where Clark Griswald (Chevy Chase) and the family enter a London Roundabout. "Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament," says Clark cheerfully.

Since they were seeing Big Ben as they were circling, they were in one of the many roundbouts in London.

Back to the Griswald family, they are still circling through the Roundabout. "We, know. Big Ben," groan the kids. "Parliament," adds Clark.

I can almost imagine folks running out of gas rounding Magic...

Dusk finds the Griswald's little car circling on the same roundabout, all passengers but Clark fast asleep. "It's amazing," Clark says to himself in hysterical disbelief. "I cannot get left."

I haven't seen it, no, but WHOO! Can you imagine trying to work this one?

I never realised how much I loved roundabouts till er.. my sweetie found it so difficult to maneuvre them.. not that I have a passion for them or anything, but driving is definitely more interesting with roundabouts than lights!

ps: sweetie being runawayrogue

wow i didnt know the city and county road workers were ex nada employees...(no offence to anyone)..

btw the roundabout in chehalis between walmart and homedepot is SOO much fun to go around backwords at about 30-35mph....nothing like squeeling tires in the toaster. okay maybe its not that exiting but its great to do when bored.

Thanks for starting this thread, mocascion! There I was, motoring my way into La Conner, and - what's this? Oh, I know what it is, thanks to SL! (Otherwise I might still be there, but without Big Ben or Parliament for company...)
