Default Just Call Me Weather Obessed! (possible snow)

Who's excited for snow? KOMO makes it sound as though Sat night through Sunday morning, we *could* have us a good few inches of accumulation, even to sea level!

I just got back from Les Schwab. I didn't get studs or anything... just two new front tires as mine were in serious bad shape. It's the least I can do to prepare for the snow. I should of brought my chains to see if they'd fit on the xB. I know they're for 15" tires... ?

BTW, did I ever tell you I deliver newspapers for a living? 80 miles a night? Sat night is a BIG night too with all those Sunday newspapers.

I got to get my snow letter out tonight. It basically says that I'm a wuss in the snow, that my route is 80 miles long and I'm not risking going in the ditch for their stupid Seattle Times newspaper, that I'll deliver some but many customers will have to kiss my toosh. It's nice to see the snow and even nicer if it's enough to give up on my route, go home and SLEEP.

SNOW! SNOW! SNOW!

Yeah, a foot a snow and then lots a rain. Ah, that was some entertaining news that year... especially since we hadn't a carport nor boat docked in Lynnwood, lol. (my grandmother's carport crashed though)

the comedy is the School closures, the mad dashes for batteries, fire logs, candles, and water at the stores... one wind storm last year, my wife actually had to fight for the last box of Del Logs at safeway!!! Flat out.. people freak when there is just a dusting fo snow...

Snow in Seattle is HILARIOUS!!!

As a newly transplanted Minnesotan, I couldn't believe the people freaking out over snow that didn't even cover my grass! No matter where you are, people forget how to drive in snow, but that was crazy! They were closing schools, and I was watching people slide down hills SIDEWAYS in their cars!

I haven't been gone long enough to miss the snow yet...give me another 5 years! But, good luck if it does snow up there...

You know, my husband is from Menomonie, WI, very near Minnesota and he says the same thing. BUT, I have to remind him that I've been to that area and quite frankly, if all our roads were as flat as they are there, and we had the all the snow plows and saltings, then and only then, it would be a fair comparison.

Hell, there is like one or two hills, max, in the areas I've been too that could possibly pose any issues to someone if it weren't plowed or fixed in some way. But even then, that hill is NOTHING compared to the many ones we have here.

We DO and HAVE had bad snow (that may or may not melt around noon) sometimes and that is why we have school snow closures. I, for one, would rather shoot myself in the foot than to have my children travel up and down all the hills it takes to get to school, in a big bus, without seatbelts on. Maybe if it was flat... maybe if we had a snowplow that ensured the district's roads are cleared, sanded, salted, something, I wouldn't have a problem.

We freak out about a little snow because our snow predictions are almost never right. They say a little snow and next thing you know, you've got 9" of fluffy shiite when you wake up to go to work that is nicely positioned on that steepass hill.

My only guess as to why people say we're so freaky with snow is because yeah, it IS a big deal here. We just don't get it often. If we got it all year long like in the midwest, then yeah, it'd be old news too.

Humph... snow snots from the midwest!

The near mention of snow on the news means lots of overtime for Brian which means extra money for us! YAY!

I'm just glad I only have a 3 mile one way 'commute' to work now!

He actually works at Les Schwab!!

If there's snow on the ground, he will more than likely have to go in . . . even if it's a Sunday which is a day they are closed.

I don't mean to be a "snow snob"...I had just never seen panic like that at the mention of 2" of snow.

My brother went to school in Menomonie (UW Stout) and there aren't many hills there, but Minneapolis and St Paul are built on the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers, so you get some pretty steep hills and bluffs in both cities.

But, you are right, they do use lots of salt and sand (average of 4 tons per lane mile each year).

I meant no disrespect, just my observations. I loved Seattle, it was just very different than what I came from.

Anyway...I hope you all come through the snow this weekend safe and sound. We had a big snowstorm one year on Thanksgiving weekend, and it was AWESOME. Plenty of food, and the family all together. We all got in jammies and played board games and ate leftovers. One of my favorite memories!!

Jenna, please read this...

and this...

Alway put you best traction tires on the rear of the vehicle or you risk swapping ends VERY QUICKLY if you have to steer or brake.

Drive safely,
Tomas

MNScion, no problems! I just go through a lot of defending with my husband and all his Wisconsin friends who all live here now. Literally, he has 8 others who escaped the Menomonie/Eau Clair area, lol.

Okay, I haven't played much in MN so I can't speak for there but yeah, you know exactly what neck of the woods they all came from and how non-hilly it is there, lol.

I still want to call you, my husband and all his friends snow-snots, lol. In a loving way, of course!

I can live with that!

I just didn't want you to think I was dissing Seattle...loved it there.

I don't blame them for escaping Menomonie/Eau Claire...I would too! My other brother went to Eau Claire...they were lost in the land of cheeseheads for years!

(I am kidding...I have love for the cheeseheads!)

I haven't read those articles yet (I will though) but they'd answer the question I've had. Les Schwab seems to go back and forth on where the best traction tires should go. Or I've been explained differently many times and got all screwed up in the head. I would think logically they'd go in front but I have faith that you're correct, especially if you put articles.

They didn't even ask me this time where I wanted them. Hell, I forgot to mention that I wanted them siped (sp?) and complained as I paid my bill *since they've always asked me in advance before*. All I saw was more tractioned tires in the front when I got in my car... but hopefully they're the back ones and not the new ones. I will check tonight and have my husband switch them for me. I'd go back to Les Schwab to have them change it for free and sipe the M. effers but I have a feeling tomorrow isn't exactly a good day to go there, lol.

THANKS!
