Need help with Guage Cluster!
We are trying to change our guages from amber, to blue. We have the LEDs to do so, but do not have the "know how" to install them. It takes suadering (sp) and a steady hand, which I do not have.
If there is anyone who knows how to do this, please let me know.
Please, if you are not in the Pacific NW, please do not respond. I am not willing to drive to California or Nevada to have this done.
Thanks for your help!

Here is what we want to do. They say it requires a steady hand to get these on the circuit board and Soldering experience...none of which we have LOL. Beer and Pizza? Name your best price? We just hope to get it done ASAP! Thanks!
Oh I should mention it is a 2008 XB...seems to be more complicated than doing it on the 1st gen.....
Mdickson81, how similar would the XB be to the TC in this area? Heck i would drive to Auburn for some help on this!

it's not to hard. i belive that jman just used a solder and a set of neddle nose.
use the set of needle nose to hold the LED's and tap the solder gun to the solder on the board and they should release, he used the leftover on the board to install the new ones.
as far as the LCDs your gonna need translucent blue plastic. i dont know where he got that stuff.
good luck.

That looks awesome! Man I can't wait to get these looking hot on our box. We are slowly modding as we can. Neither T nor I are very steady with hands and definitely don't trust ourselves when it comes to messing with the circuit board.... T did an AMAZING job on the drilling for the spoiler....but I was in the background biting my nails, smoking and drinking I was so nervous LOL
I wanna do the same on my xD, but i have to get the led's 1st and take it all apart. I'm sure I could do it, but i want to test my skills on my car 1st before messing up someone else's dash lol
I am not exactly sure if the Gen2 xB LEDs are surface mount or not. Jman is pretty good at doing these. He is in Tacoma. There is a number of different ways to make things light up. Nate, Jman, and I all used Super Bright White LEDs for the main back lighting and then for the Blue we used lighting Gels that they use for stage lighting.

There are a number other companies out there but you can have basically any color you desire.
I am not sure about the xD either but I am sure it can be done. Also there maybe some differences in transistors that maybe needed.

Here is where we got them. All it came with is instructions and a bunch of LED's. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=280252371446
Not sure about surface mount or not either....just know instructions show putting LED's on circuit board....Will probably need the gel sheets for LCD and for LCD for air and all that good stuff. Now the hard part is WHAT blue color since we don't have the LED's in to compare blues....
The instructions say something about having to "scrape paint off of LCD's.....so I am assuming all those LED's are Blue and we wouldn't need the gel sheets for the upper dash part, but for the air we will probably need the gel sheets

Most likely you will not need the gels. The reason why we went with the gels was to have a two tone dash. You can tell the difference between the surface mount LEDs and other are the surface mount LEDs are flat with out prongs. The bottom portion of the product picture they used white LEDs behind the speedometer and the clock.
Yeah these ones seem to be flat for sure...just little flat black things with a hole in the middle if that makes sense....
On our way home we are stopping to pick up some graphics for the car from another SL member. It was cool to be able to contact someone in the "family" to have them made and we got a good price too...We may be sort of "plain" this time, but next round we will be stylin.
Only mods so far are the blue led for map and dome....rear spoiler and "toaster edition" sticker on the back just above the XB... tee hee...
After I get the gauge cluster and graphics, time for rear bumper aplique, interior illumination, new stereo *since the ugly amber will clash with my new blue light theme* and who knows where we will go from there.

Hmmm if I could take a look at an xB2's circuit board I could tell you anything you wanted to know about swapping the lights, but unfortunately I don't know anyone who owns one right now. I would be more than willing to answer questions and give directions, but I really don't have the free time to be able to do them for you, unfortunately, or I'd be all over it.
The xD's lights are pretty easy to do. It's super easy to disassemble, but a LOT of lights to swap. Plus there's that ugly orange overlay for the tach side which you can't change... I posted pics of my xD's gauges once I swapped them to blue in the xD forum... I will see if I can dig them up.
EDIT!
