R33 only has crash testing in its favor. It still needs the other 20 kagillion items to federalize them.

The S15 you are thinking of (white one) belongs to a higher up in the military who was stationed in Japan for a while and purchased it while there.

Importing JDM cars is like Voodou, you either know how to do it and can...or you don't.
Boooo If I go to Japan, can I bring one back? I don't mind about making it street legal, I'll just take it to a track or something. But I guess I gotta keep dreaming then! -___-

Nope, even military personnel have a ton of stipulations before they can bring back a car they purchased while deployed.

Street legal has nothing to do with it either. If you even have one it can and will be taken away.

This is nothing against you, the internet has given everyone a wealth of misinformation regarding topics like this.

Yeah, I honestly don't know what's true and what isn't. It's so hard to tell these days with everyone saying something different. Thanks for clearing that up for me! I guess that's why it always will remain a "dream car". :\ lol

You guys can go back to talking about your car show. Sorry I interrupted. hehe

There are TONS of themup here. Most are state legal or not legal at all. Very few Motorex'ed cars.

Come to the Northwest Nissans meet in Marchish I think, and well all the guys from Canada come down, one time I think I counted over 20. They are boring now though that's the sad part.

No DOT approved glass, no DOT approved bumpers, no airbags in many cars after 94 (when they were required here), no legal exhaust systems, no crash test data (R33 is the only one exempt from this), no DOT approved headlights.

There are many more reasons but those are some of the big ones.
Here is the list, Thank you Sean Morris for posting this on your blog!

R33's manufactured between 96-98 are legal to import, but you must have an ODB-II retrofit. There is actually a company, DriftTuners, that is posting on NicoClub that they can do it, everyone is calling BS and we are all waiting for them to show proof the car that they said they got through with the DOT paperwork.

If yo want to know more about the North American Skyline Drama story it was in an issue from 0-60 a few months back, there are some scans online somewhere.

That was Chad, the car was gutted and going to become a race car, it was sold to Garage Autohero in Seattle.

If you want an S15.. There is a way. And there will be more ways soon..

This company;
http://www.kaizoindustries.com/

They are taking Unibodies, bringing them to DOT specs, and bringing them over. You can register them as kit cars, once you install your motor. They are getting their own Kaizo VIN and MFG info.. etc.

There is a unibody for sale in Cali, I think for 23k, it's on Zilvia.net

They have also done EVO3's, R34, etc.

End Threadjack.
