About two swipes of the wipers and it's scratched if there is any grit on it.

Also, clear as it may be, it is NOT optically clear, and not good enough for windshield use (wouldn't pass DOT requirements).

Just to verify that I had a small piece of the 3M stuff put on a corner of the windshield when I had it put on the front of Vanilla, and it was horrible to try to look through.

There is a glass treatment (expensive) that somewhat toughens the glass and makes it's surface smoother (easier to keep clean), but it seems overkill, especially for the price. http://www.diamon-fusionusa.com

That's pretty much what I figured. Maybe I'll just get a 6 inch tint strip but do it on the outside-at least protect the top part.

Hey how about a petition to make loads be required to be covered on all state and interstate highways? Just having it so that the gravel doesn't come flying out of huge semis on I5 would really help the issue of windshield chips.

Also, what about having some smooth roads, so those same semis don't bounce down the highway like a funny cartoon? I'm sure that's not safe in general!

Sad part is 21 years of driving.........never had even one chip...........and I liek to drive a lot.......my first car I drove 45000 miles the first year alone.......LOL.........now had I gottenthe car lowered already the windshield would of been low enough to have the rock sail right over the car...........

I am jsut glad it was not the tC........it woudl of hit the top and we all know how much that can cost for a new top..........they consider that a body panel.........not a window........

Please do not let this following tale become a way for people to try to scam a free windshield. The names of the spots have been changed to protect the locals.

This last fall I had a chunk of asphault bounce up and hit my windshield and leave a crack that was round and about 2 inches in diameter, I went back to the exit where it happened the next day and found that where the highway construction had been done there were all kinds of asphault pucks.

I took really good photos of the road and the exit and the ground and contacted ODOT and they put a claim in to the company that had the construction contract. They were super quick and I had a new windshield and from the quotes I supplied-they let me choose-they just cut me a check.

as a side note to the uselessness of all oregon govt systems though, they contacted me 5 months later and wanted to know if I wanted to proceeed with a claim for the rock chip....

If you are paying for it go to MS Auto glass in Seattle it was cheap $180 for the xB.

Brian,

For insurance call Jennifer PM or call me if you need her number she hooked up our insurance rates, and we got more coverage for less money.

Where are you at, SunnyDaytc? Up in WA just follow Mo's advice... MS is good from what our agents in WA have said... If you're down in Oregon give me a PM and I can hook you up with one of my contacts at Safelite that will get you a great deal.
