Default Resurfacing Brake Rotors Locations (Oregon)

hey guys,

i need to resurface my front driver side rotors because a few months ago, a rock got caught between the brakes and the rotors, and now, it has left a pretty deep scar into my rotors. so about 75% of the time now, everytime i hit the brake, it would make a high squealing sound.

do you guys know any locations here in oregon that will resurface my rotors for a cheap price plus do a good job on it?

thanks.

Are you sure a rock got caught in there? I've never hear of that before it's a awful small space there. When you pull it check your brake pad and see if maybe it cracked or chipped. Just a thought.

It's almost cheaper (in the long run) to buy new. I get mine at www.thepartsbin.com they cost about $40 and cheap shipping. Ships same day if ordered before noon EMT. And you wouldn't have to worry about the side effects of shaving rotors...i.e. warping due to overheating

Machined rotor... $20
New rotor ("Centric" brand).... $40

Easy decision

I second that, just buy new. The marginally higher cost will be more than offset because new would last much longer.

^ X3. A lot of places, in my area anyway, don't offer rotor turning any more. I used to get it done all the time on my older cars. When I went back to the same places in recent years, some don't even have the machines any more. It's not cost effective to turn them, since replacement rotors are so cheap.
Normally when you hear a squeal (and there are a few miles on the car), that's the indicator on the brake pad. It's a metal tab which contacts the rotor intentionally, when the pad reaches a certain thickness. It's to let you know it's time to change pads, before the pads are completely gone, and the rotor would get damaged by metal to metal contact with the pad backing plate. In your case, sounds like it's too late - you've already got damage.

Check a local auto parts store for rotors before ordering on line - they're heavy, so buying local would save you shipping charges. Most every place should have them.

^ Very true, most local places will have them but they will be very cheap quality. It's best to buy online and know what brand you are getting. For instance in my previous post i suggested centric, which is a well known and trusted brand. And they have a minimal shiiping charge. Like 5 or 6 bucks.

I bought store bought "no name" rotors once and they were very cheap. They weighed about 2 lbs less than the stock ones and warped in the first month.

i pulled everything off already. brake pads look fine. the rotors have about a 1cm scratch that goes all around the rotor. i assume that's what's making the sound. if it's not a rock, then it's some kind of debris that got caught between there and when i went to brake, it scarred the rotor.

Yeah you have to pull the rotor and take it to Napa or other auto store that does it. Schwab is charging you labor for pulling the rotors and reinstalling them.

Schwab factors in having to romove the wheel...and maybe the rotor. They should have the new machings that turn the rotors on the car.

Take it to NAPA or AutoZone and it should be about $20.
