Default Sad day for me!

Well yesterday sucked! I got in an accident! Yep . . . the poor lil tC is messed up! My baby!!

I had just left work at 1:45 headed out of UP. I was stopped at the light at Chambers Creek and Bridgeport about 10 cars back when I heard this screeching noise. I immediately looked around to see what was going on, eager to see if an accident was to happen, when BAM . . . I got hit. The guy in the civic behind me was hit by another car who failed to stop until the last minute. That then pushed me into the car in front of me.

Of course I was freaking out . . . I had never been in an accident before so the first thing I did was call 911. I then tried to prepare myself for what I was going to see as far as damage. I went to the front, it looked good. There didn't seem to be any damage to the car in front of me. Then the rear . . . not so good! There's a hole in my rear bumper so I'll be needing a new one of those! The rear bumper was pushed so far forward as it scratched my rear left wheel. I was actually expecting it to be worse so I'd say the tC did pretty good cause it felt like I was hit pretty hard.

The car behind me though, poor guy, I'm, pretty sure his car is a total loss. He was hit with some force which surprises me that he wasn't hurt at all.

Now the good stuff . . . just as I expected when I looked at the car that caused the accident, the driver didn't have insurance. He also had a warrant out for his arrest, and the police found some incriminating evidence of him being a drug dealer. His primer gray hoopty said 'The Yard' all over it and even had an alarm! Needless to say, he got taken away in handcuffs! It was quite comical and made everything a little more amusing as he was probably high at the time.

So here's some pics of the damage. Hopefully I can get her fixed soon, but I have no clue how long it's going to take. I'm just glad that besides being a little sore, I am OK and unhurt. That being said, I probably won't be showing at Silverwood, but I will still go, we'll probably bring Brian's new Rabbit.

ouch that sux..... cool they got a dealer off the street.... but still... not fun...

and unfortunately the guy who caused it wont get tagged with your damage.. the honda that hit you will tho...
at least last time i heard.. in a chain accident like that.. who ever made contact with your car, even if they got pushed into you, is responsible for your damage... as you will be responsible for the car in front of you that you hit..

pretty sure thats how it goes in WA.....

either way.. that sux... hope you get fixed up soon... if its just a bumper peice and no other work needs to be done.. should be a quick fix.. i think

ouch, sorry to hear Evette, thank god there was a car between you and the jerk. Hope you are feeling better physically, some times it take a while for the aches to show up. The guy in the Civic was lucky he didn't get hurt, thank god for seatbelts.

Honestly...go to a chiropractor. I was in an accident when I was 17, and I thought everything was fine because I didn't hurt at all. 2 weeks later I had lower back pains, but still didn't do anything about it. Basically, it's now the reason why I have to occasionally sleep on the floor.

I got hit on the front driver's side. You should still go and at least be checked for whiplash or something. They may not find anything, but trust me it will be worth it if they do. Because they can treat it now so it won't hurt you more later.

Sorry to hear about your car.

I was in a similar accident, and only the person AT-FAULT was charged, not the poor lady that got shoved into me.

hmm... the police only charged the guy at fault.... but did your insuarnce go after him or the car that hit you? i was under the impression that insurance went after the car that made contact with yours...

either way.. it sucks

Thanks everyone!

I hope that everything works out with minimal out of pocket and raised insurance rates for me. As of right now I am looking at my $100 deductible ( thank the Lord! ) and loss of a car for the time mine's being fixed. My insurance said that it's possible that the guy who hit me, that his may help, but we're not counting on it. They did call me though, which I thought was strange. I'm just waiting to hear what they have to say.

I'm definitely a little more sore today than yesterday. I've had a headache since the accident which I think is from my head slamming into my headrest. But going to see a chiro is a good idea. I will definitely have to do that.

Thanks again everyone for the concern!

^^ Yes, as far as I've heard, the person at-fault for the chain reaction gets tagged for all of them.

First of all, I'm soooo glad that you're safe Evette!!! The damage to your car can be repaired and is insignificant to any injuries you may have gotten.

My step-sister caused an 8 car pile up on I-405 a few years ago and she didn't have insurance and had over $200,000 tagged to her through the court system.

You can try going to court on this but it sounds like a waste of time. Do you have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage in your insurance policy? In Washington, it seems, it is the best policy addition one can get because so many people are unisured up here.

Check your policy...and if you have it now is the time to contact your insurance and go forth from there on an uninsured driver.

Yeah, I am covered for un-insured motorists. Funny thing is that I always had this idea that if I ever got hit, with my luck it would be an un-insured motorist. That's why I have the coverage! Good thing too!

I got a letter from the lady's insurance company, stating that since she was not at fault for the accident, that they were not responsible for the claim. I had never even notified her insurance company, so they must have gotten my info from the police report.

Evette...MAKE SURE you file this under your uninsured/hit-n-run coverage (if you have it, that is) because you do not want to file this under your "collision" coverage. State Farm originally tried to screw me by filing it under my collision coverage, then I corrected them by reminding them that it was an "uninsured" claim. In fact my deductible for said coverage was much lower ($200) than my collision deductible ($1000).

I believe that if they do file it under your collision coverage, that it WILL raise your rates. At least with my insurance company. I am no insurance expert but have been hit enough times to have a pretty good idea of how it all works.

Thanks Dustin. Yeah he got a rabbit. You know I thought the same thing when he called me from the dealership. But he actually doesn't look like a big guy driving a small car! There's a lot of room in there!

Yeah Nikki, my agent knows me pretty well from the days of having the neon. She was the one who told me that it needs to go on my un-insured so I think that's taken care of. I have State Farm and she said it shouldn't raise my rates, but I have a driving discount thing that I won't get anymore, even though it wasn't my fault and there's nothing I could have done to prevent it. It will raise my monthly premium about $20 which sucks.

YES..this should serve as a good reminder for all of you to check your policies. It is generally a pretty cheap add-on. I believe it is something like $50 every 6 months for me, and that is for 2 cars.

Considering I have been hit twice, and Henry at least once, by uninsured drivers in the past three years....my coverage has come in very handy.
