I can admit that when I turned 16 my parents gave me a truck but my Dad was on my case hardcore about where I went and such...he was so bad to the point I had to keep a milage log before I moved the car I had to write down the miles and when I got to my destination I had to write down my miles and he had made sure the truck stood out because he knows like half the world and cops so if they saw me driving like an idiot there was no doubt in their mind it was me (this was a white truck with a pink pin stripe and mercedes hub caps). The truck wasn't brand new and it was a hand me down from my brother I respected that truck and I took care of it...But my parents found it more cost effective to give me that car than to take time off work to drive me around to all 5 million of my activities....and I lived in Lake Tapps where there were no bus routes so that wasn't an option

 

he shouldn't be driving a stick, a honda or any kind of car that he can mod.
i hope he learn his lesson.

 

I hate kids who dont understand what they are getting and abuse it. My got my first truck my senior year in HS and it needed some work since it was a 68 chevy but it ran. Over the years I fixed it up replacing almost everything. Right now i have it sidelined since the diff went out on me. I already got it fixed with new axles, limited slip diff, gears, fluid. All i need to do is put it back on. replacing the motor as well and adding front disk brakes. replaced all electrical with a painless kit.
Here are some shots of it, i miss driving it. the smell of unburnt gas in the exhaust, loud flowmaster exhaust and best of all no ac.

it's all in upbringing. parents leading by example is very important. if you would just as soon trash whatever you have and buy another one, then that's the legacy you pass down to the kids. also buying them whatever they want doesn't help either.

 

^^ good point it does all come back on the parents!! Parent's need to look at how they raised their children, if you give your kid everything what are you teaching them? NOTHING!!

 

My first car was a dark blue 1994 toyota corolla. It shook if you went over 60 mph. So I never drove it faster than 60 for fear it would fall apart on me.

 

It's apart of teaching a child how to appreciate what they have. If they earned the money to buy a car then they will appreciate the work that went into getting it. I've bought every car I owned.

 

Nice ride! One of my favorite years of Chevy trucks. My Dad had a 68, 69 and a 70 at the same time. Solid trucks for sure.

 

my first ride was an '86 toyota pickup. the only option it had was a/c. it didn't even have a radio. my dad kept it nice for 13 years and handed it down to me when he bought a brand new '99 f150. his example rubbed off on me, and i treated that thing like the holy grail. like most 16 year olds i drove it way too fast at times, but i was smart about it and lucky enough not to crash into anything or anyone. i'd probably still be driving that truck if someone hadn't stolen it out of our driveway a few months after i got my license. my parents basically told me that life is hard, and until i can afford another car i'd better get a bus schedule. those are the kind of life lessons that shape kids into who they are when they grow up. your neighbor is doing all kinds of damage by repeatedly bailing the kid out. it seems like he's wised up on that last one. let's hope the kid turns things around in the future.

 

No neighbor kid like that, but I could tell you many tales about my first wife's driving, including taking out a "Y" sign 'cause she couldn't decide which way to take, cramming the back of her MG under my '55 Chevy while parking, FLIPPING my Volvo sedan off I-5, backing into a snow plow, etc.

Nevermind, I don't really want to go there.

EDIT: Forgot to include her taking down an oak tree next to an Auburn parking lot with on eof my Land Cruisers - and actually breaking it's bumper.

My neighbor (while I have lived here), went through a 90 Prelude in 3 months, a BEAUTIFUL 89 CRX that looked brand new, a 80's 300z, a 90's Cammaro, and is now rolling an '80's civic...I have only lived here for 4 years....

the problem is the dad keeps buying him things.. i had to buy my first car and get insurance for myself.. this means its my problem and my responsibility. If people just keep giving you things your not going to value it as much, as if it were yours and you paid for it.

 

My first car was a 90 corolla. My parents bought it for me for 500. It wasnt a looker but i was so excited. Yea i drove it hard and forgot to change the oil and blew the motor. But i did pay my own insurance. I shoulda taken better care of it. I was very appreciative of the fact i got it. The only reason it went bye bye is cause i forgot to change the oil. My step dad got rid of his car to help me get a new one a 98 4dr civic lx. He got to use it when he needed to but i paid for the car and the insurance because he helped me out so much there. i babied that car. I was way appreciative. Eventually he got a new car. So this was all mine. But i realized i needed to be more aware of my car and take care of it. I was always appreciative and learned from my first mistake.
