Then your Accord must not have had the transponder chip in the key to keep the car from starting.

This is true only if you have an aftermarket alarm with remote start. My 01 Accord did work this way and has the valet key hidden in the vehicle. I am guessing the tC is setup the same way but I didn’t go to get it installed. This probably explains why I can’t find the valet key.

There is also a bypass chip available to override needing the key in the car.

If they did not have remote start or a key it would be difficulty to take off with the car.

If they are smart they will destroy the key part and just have the chip in there, Otherwise you could disable the alarm, find the valet key and drive off.
are xb keys equipped like this as well?

If you but the remote engine start from Scion they do not take your valet key.

Yeah, josh, but that is integrated with the factory set-up. Not like an aftermarket alarm.

^^that would still work then, you only need the key or chip in the car if you are using the remote start.

Scion didn't offer remote start when I purchased our cars or Nav for that matter. Besides for less than what Scion/Dealers charge I got a two way pager alarm with remote start and installation.

Hi,

My name is Mike. I am the person that posted this up on craigslist for my friend Jen. Thanks for keeping an eye out for the car. So far she still hasn't heard anything........NOT A GOOD SIGN .

What had happened was her apartment had been broke into at some point and her spare key stolen. She didn't realize it had been broke into until after her car was already gone.

Not good^ I am used to seeing th car around the Everett Mall but am sure it gone now, they susally find them quickly if they are not parted. I keep watching Craigslist but nothing really yet. Watch for the wheels and someone parting one out (usually in an outlying area) and they don't post pics.

Remote starts in these cars need a bypass to work. Usually you have a box located in the car somewhere that you put the valet key in and then a wire runs from it to the ignition cylinder. Now if done right... this bypass is only activated when the remote start is initialized. The car would not start if you stuck a screw driver in the ignition. Now if the person who installed it did it a different way then its possible. I worked at Circuit City for 3 years and put one on my own car.

If the valet key is in the car that is all they need. Easier than using a screwdriver.

Yeah, I told her that at this point she needs to just move on cause she isn't getting it back and even if it is found it will already be trashed.

So now just waiting on the insurance investigation to finish so she can get herself something new.

I'll keep a eye out for it as well. You won't be able to miss those wheels, that is if they are still even on the car.

Well, they found her car. Surprisingly it wasn't destroyed. The guy didn't chop it. The mirror that he broke off is obviously gone and the stereo is gone. She said it needs a bath and the interior needs a really good cleaning cause it smells really bad.

So she is going to try and buy it back from Farmers. She just got a 07 Tacoma on Sunday too. lol
