Default Tint %

I live in pierce county in tacoma, wa. I just moved up here from las vegas. What are the tint percentages here, and do you get much hassle from the police for having too dark of a tint? Anybody know how strict the laws are up here?

From what I remember, 35% seems to be the minimum. I've been rocking 30% since October and I haven't got stopped yet. *knock knock*

Google "washington state tint regulations" or something similar and look for light transferring percentages.

Well welcome to the NW! It's great to have another SW tC around!! I am also in Pierce County so I've probably seen you! Anyways, 35% is the legal limit. I have 20% and have had my windows tinted for almost a year now with not one problem from police. I think it helps cause I always have the shade to my sunroof open so it makes it a little lighter inside the car thus making the tint look lighter. My BF also had tinted windows at 5% and he never got hassled for it in the 2 years he had that car. I am not saying that you won't get a ticket, but I think it really depends on what you're doing. If you're drawing attention to yourself then yeah, you'll probably get stopped for it, but if not then I wouldn't worry about it!

darker cars tend to have a tougher time, because the tint just looks darker. My friend had 30% on her car and she got stopped 3 times in a week and a half. Her car was a dark charcoal color.

But if you go with 35%, and have the receipt in the car just in case, you should have very few problems.

Yeah, you should be able to do 30, maybe even 25 without a problem but 35 IS the limit legally.

If you already HAVE darker tint being that you came from the desert, show them your NV drivers license and that you just moved here and if they WOULD have otherwise fined you I can just about guarantee it would be a fix it ticket.

Welcome to the northwest! How are you enjoying the rain, sleet and snow so far? I moved from Southern CA a little over a year ago. (Grew up here but was down there for 4 years.)

It grows on ya... I promise.

Welcome again!

The stock car comes with black interior, and slightly tinted windows. When you add say a 32% tint film to the windows you end up with something around 28%. Here is what my car looks like with 30-32% on it. I can't recall exactly what percent it was, doh. I have not ever been pulled over for tint or spoke about it during a stop in 10 years that I have had cars with Tint on them.

Anyone needing tint in the Portland area should give my buddy a call at his shop, Solar Eclipse in Vancouver. Chris is the man when it comes to tinting. Great prices and lifetime warrenty.

^^ of course this would be an exception and not the rule... Wow... that's really dark...

I had I think right about 10% when I had my Prius and I couldn't see CRAP at night. Half the time I had to roll my windows dwn if parking was going to be tight in any way...

5% looks nice on the outside but I can't possibly see how it's practical

Yah I agree. Anywhere near 30ish is pretty good, in the day and night. Even I have rolled my windows down in a poorly lit neighborhood when looking for an address.

Sooooo true. I wouldn't be able to see crap and it would bother me. I mean, if its a window you can roll down MAYBE I can see why someone would do it (still not something I'd do) but a back window? the guys crazy.

I have 30% on my flint mica tC and no problems. My uncle is a Seattle cop and he told me that getting a ticket for window tint is a secondary ticket. Meaning, you cant get pulled over for having just dark ___ windows. To get a ticket you need to get pulled over for something else i.e. speeding.

It all depends on what state you are in as they all differ for a multiple reasons.

For a state by state breakdown of what is allow check out TintDude.com It's good information if you are traveling to a new state and want to make sure you won't have any problems.
