Default Tuner Friendly State

Hey Guys. I live in Cali and its time for me to get out of here. Cops keep busting me for my car (turboed) and I cant keep paying the fines and tickets. I was wondering if your states and counties are tuner friendly. Also, what is required to register my vehicle in your area?

For the most part, Washington state is tuner friendly, but our emission laws are getting tighter for newer vehicles (slowly becoming mini-Cali-north).

So long as you have a pre-2009 vehicle you must meet emission standards, but otherwise fairly relaxed.

Check here for licensing requirement links...

Certain counties as well do not require emissions tests as well, but unfortunately the populated ones do, like Snohomish and King for example. So depending on where you live, you may not even be required to go in for emissions testing!

I won't know until after next year since we don't have to do emissions here on cars that are 5 or less years old

What is do they look for on the visual check in Texas? I was told when you go to the DMV or courthouse they perform a visual check. Anyone have more info on this?

tuner friendly... I'd say so but the drivers here suck ___. This from a guy born and raised here. People have no regard for the passing left lane and camp out there for as long as they wish. Cops don't enforce that infraction and only go for speeders and drunk drivers.

id prefer they go after speeders myself, in regards to the were inspections take place there are shops usually small repair places that do them, in the city they do emissions but once you get out of the major cities all they do is a safety check, tires/wipers/headlights/brakelights/turn signals/locking seatbelts/e-brake, that kind of stuff, and in the city usually an extra $20 and most wont even do the emission check, or you could just drive out of the city and get it done, plus its cheaper

Maybe this would be a good thread for people to post what they know as some of the best emissions testing spots to go to.

CJ - I totally agree - i hate the people who feel obligated to be in passing lane and carpool lane & drive at exactly 60mph... that's why i have learned to pass in any lane if drivers are being idiots (which most of them here in WA are)

In Washington state emission testing is done at state emission testing stations run by a contractor for the state... They are pretty much all the same.

Actually no they aren't. they maybe are supposed to be the same, but in my experience they are not even close. there is one in everett, that as long as your computer is not throwing errors you pass. Others do the sniff test, others still look under the hood. they're not even close.

(I've always gone to the same ones, and they did tests differently according to the type of vehicle I was bringing in, and it's age, but it was basically what they were told to do by the terminal after entering the VIN... If different stations are performing different tests on the same vehicle they shouldn't be, unless some of their hardware is out of service...or not even installed, and then they will go to the backup methods. Then again, I could be totally wrong. )

FLORIDA!!!! The weather is nearly the same as Cali, but there are no inspections... ever and no emissions.... ever.... tint laws are 25% on front two and 15% rear.... but no curvy hills or many turns. A lot of straight flats... but they all lead to the beach!
