Default Are you really "Good to Go"?

So many of us are aware that on Highway 167 single occupant drivers are able to use the HOV lane under the provision that they pay the indicated amount that is posted; these drivers have the "Good to Go" sticker posted on their windshield that automatically gets charged.

But let's think about what the purpose of having a sticker is, rather than having a little "key" or electronic device on your key chain to be sensed by the meter...Well, from my perspective I think that the sticker shows to others (drivers and policemen) that you are legitimate and rightfully can drive in the HOV lane.

With this in mind, what if you were to photocopy the sticker, laminate, and stick on your windshield. You would be able to "pass" as a user of Good to Go while not having to pay, correct?

Unless the police have a special sensor to gun you with, with the purpose of seeing whether you really do have a sticker on your car, I would think that this system in heavily flawed. But of course I'm sure governmental policies are much more flaw-proof than that right?

And by the way, this was just on the top of my head. Never would I choose to act upon this.

Any feedback or opinions to my thinking?

Yeah but there are alot of issues with the transponders, at work we have them on all our vehicles and since the new bridge opened and now 167 I get between 5-10 tickets in a 2 week time period and it then becomes MY job to argue with the court house in order to get the ticket cancelled........waste my time and my company's money JUST so our government can make an easy buck....not a fan!!

Not to mention the 167 HOV thingy is a rip off I have seen that thing go from $0.75 to $3.75 in a matter of an hour or so on a SATURDAY with no traffic.....what is that?!? I refuse to drive in those lanes cause knowing my luck I would get a ticket for not having a "transponder" and having my kids in the backseat so the camera wouldn't see my kids and assume I was not legitimate.....grrrrrrrrr

After reading this article my plans are out the window. I didn't know they took a picture of your car as you pass under it. I thought they just scanned for the transponder.

Reasons I hate the good to go pass -

I actually carpool every stinking day and now my carpool lane gets all clogged up and I hate it.

The whole "you can't cross to white lines" CRAP if they are going to enforce that MAYBE, just freaking MAYBE they should put a way to get out if say, you have an exit coming up. I have had to miss the exit I was going to take TWICE because I didn't want to cross the stupid freaking lines even though I legitimately carpool. Not only are there long stretches (two or three exits long) with no chance to exit/enter this lane BUT sometimes when there IS a chance to exit this lane it is unsafe to merge because of other traffic so I get screwed AGAIN into staying in this god foresaken lane.

Now I don't even freaking use the stupid lane even though I carpool.

They snap a picture of your license plate and of the driver and send you copies of them attached to a nice little ticket!!!

This whos good to go thingy is just wrong, why do we have to pay double for our roads?? We pay with our taxes because we have no other choice but then we have to pay to use the roads that our taxes pay for!!! dumb....I don't even use 167 because I don't enjoy the parking lot type atmosphere

Just to clarify there are two types of passes one that goes on your license plate and another that is a decal that sticks to your windshield. State Patrol has no way of knowing if you have a decal or not other than visually looking for one. There is no special gun or camera to tell if a car is cheating the system.

The other thing that sucks about the passes is if you are a car pool and happen to have the pass you need to cover the decal with a metal cover so you don’t get charged, or if you have the license plate mounted one you need to cover it before you start driving or you will be charged even if you are a carpool.

As for the new striping it will take time to get use to but people forget that you are not supposed to cross a double line. I like how in Southern California they have built cement walls so once you are in you stay in.

On the issue of revenue generation the HOV lanes on 167 were under utilized and had free capacity that is why they were selected for this pilot program. So basically our tax dollars were used to create carpool lanes that were not being used so at least now the state can make some money and put our existing infrastructure to use.

Final note the lanes are not being used that much anyway last stats I saw there were only like a thousand cars a week using the lanes and paying.

I know there were issues on the Narrows bridge where the cameras were not able to read license plates of vehicles and people with out the pass were able to drive through without paying.

Cameras on 167 were never publicized to my knowledge it was stated that enforcement was up to the state patrol.

Good to know that there are apparently cameras.

That damn Toll Bridge.......
in the 'Pete with an empty lowboy trailer, stopped and paid cash to cross the bridge {$7.50} (southbound) ... then the company got a ticket (with photo of trlr lic. plate) saying that I hadn't paid the toll... Safety dept. took receipt to court and got the matter cleared up.
the damn sensors embedded in the roadway can't count beyond 2 axles..and I had 5...
go figure!
