Default Cali woes

Quick question I need help with-I received my license plates and haven't put my front one on! I don't want to be harrased by cops, what can i expect keeping it off?
I would love to keep it off, the car looks much cooler like that.I've seen so many cars on the road with it off.. Anybody had bad experiences?

Having it off will give any cop an opportunity to pull you over for what ever reason they wish. If you get pulled over for any other reason, you will also get a fixit ticket.

Depends on a number of things...what you look like, how you drive, what other illegal actions you are taking, what the cops mood is when he sees your missing plate....soooooooooo many variables it is really hard to say for sure.

That said, I have been sans front plate for 2 months now and no problems.

I've been without my front plate for 1.5 years now--but a few months ago I was parked in front of my girlfriends house...PARKED...and came out later that night to find a fix it ticket on my windshield. Paid the ticket, and kept the plate off.

Just remember, if you are OK with getting hassled (since you are breaking the law) then keep it off. Don't act surprised is all i'm saying.

As long as you haven't riced it out with a body kit, spoiler, dropped it, tinted windows, you'll get by without having the front plate. Other than that, it'll just give them another reason to pull you over.

They used to be free, just go to the court and have a deputy or officer verify the plate is in place. However, I recently saw a post in another thread, where someone stated they now also charge a $50 fine.

I agree, that's been my experience (speeding on fwy, 73mph, got ticket for it, plus "fixit" for both missing front plate & front-side window tint), and will happen to anyone w/o a front plate in CA...sooner or later.

The good news is that if you get pulled over for something kinda weak, you might get a fix it ticket instead of a moving violation which is a good thng. If you get one, install the plate, get it signed off and pay the $10 fine. I havent run a plate since I was 16 and have had to get it signed off once. That one time saved me from getting a moving violation so I say its worth leaving it off.

I agree with The_Instagator it definitly might get you off the hook with a moving wiolation but then again if you have illegal tints, exhaust, tail lights you might stir up more than your asking for, it all depens. IMO i think you should leave it off remember it cost money to make you ride look good. also its not like you going to go to jail for it.

Hope this solves your delema.

I thought I'd never get nailed for tint - WRONG!
I'd just do it.
Not worth the BS.

havent had one on since august of 04. got pulled over in houston for speeding and passing someone over in a carpool lane and no front license plate like 6 months ago, but showed them a picture at court that i had it on and got it dismissed. took defensive driving for the rest.

i say keep it off until you get pulled over, the consequences arnt that bad.
