i love love love cali canyons, thats probably one of the other things i miss the most other than the beach, but topanga, decker, box canyon, etc palos verdes is a nice place to just kinda cruise around not too fast while looking at the ocean, breathing the ocean air
canyon runs are fun, my boyfriend and i make up for it here in vegas though, got quite a few canyons out here, but not as fun as cali canyons

not too far actually.. red rock is about 20 min from the strip pretty much
you can look up red rock online, its $5 to get in kuz it is a recreational park kinda thing, but you can stop and climb rocks and all that good stuff, i go there all the time
the yearly pass is $20 which is a real good deal, go as many times a year for $20 instead of paying $5 everytime

its about 11-13 miles of twisties and some elevation changes, its fun, a good cruising place, i would go too too fast though there are people on bikes, its good enough, but not a good as home in cali

I'm going driving tomorrow with my mr2 buddies to somewhere called Rim of the World. I think its somewhere near 138 which is also a rowdy, high speed, scary road.
What are canyon runs? Like are they normal roads or dirt roads people have created? Sounds like its fun but im out here in LV too. Been to redrock, it was alright, didnt climb or anything but the road it self was pretty cool, just wish you could drive fast on it. How far are you guys and these canyons you speak of from LV?

No one here is actually speaking of RUNNING in the canyon
... just cruising on any canyon road thats enjoyable to drive and somewhat challenging. Unlike straight driving, you can actually learn how to really drive and learn how your car handles and the limitations. It's pretty fun and interesting because most of the time... a light-weight vehicle that handles fantastic w/ little HP will out drive a HP monster that has too much power to even be used in all the turns you'd find in a canyon road. I generally will go with my mr2 buddies (midships, ugh!), they handle so well and are able to keep their speed up while cornering.
I love it when you go in a nice caravan and the lead car is going fast!
Canyon RUNS are what gets your car crushed if CHP or sheriff ever catch you RACING up there. They are on normal canyon roads... DIRT? I wish i had a subaru for that!
The canyons I'm speaking of... GMR, GRR, ACR are all linked together... general location is off the 210 between the 15 and the 57
If you go to youtube, and type in touge or even Glendora Mountain Rd/GMR, you'll find videos of people running up canyon roads.

yeah mr2's miata's2k's great canyon crusing cars, they can maintain their speed in the turns, barely any understeer at all
anyway red rock is just about all we got out here in vegas, other than busy roads up to mt. charleston. in california there's is definitely a bigger challenge cruising around the canyons out there and of course more green and more to look at than just rocks. the rock formations at red rock are very interesting to look at as well as climb, in fact ive gotten to the very top of the calico basin rocks and stuff. its a fun climb, and nice to just see the view from up there. the road is fun too, a few elevations changes and twisties but not as gerastic as california canyons. decker canyon was by far one of my favorite canyons to cruise on, especially the figure 8 towards the end of the run overlooking the ocean water of malibu its just gorgeous. we ran back up decker the opposite direction at night, some scarry crap but its tons of fun no matter what canyons you go to, especially if you just like to go cruising or take a relaxing drive away from the city

I live in the Coachella Valley, and we used to ride crotch-rockets up Hwy. 74. There are some nice runs up 74 and between Banning and Idylwild. And don't forget Palomar... Might be too far for some though...
