Car enthusiasts put CHP on blast in San Diego
A few weeks ago at a Race Legal event that's held down here at the Qualcomm stadium, CHP decided that they would wait outside as people left to pull them over and bust them for their illegal parts.
Pretty messed up seeing as how Race Legal at Qualcomm is sponsored by SDPD and CHP. THe guys that got pulled over decided they needed to get their voice heard and do something about it. So they went to the local news stations.

And the news cast airs tonight on Channel 8 news (KFMB) at 11pm.

it's cool that the SDPD help out by letting you guys race legally on the track, but if you know you got modified cars you should know that your taking the risk of driving on the streets and that you might get pulled over.
From what I've heard, CHP were just chillin right outside of the events just flagging every modified car that left the Q. I mean yeah there's a big risk in driving a modified car, but if they're trying to promote a safe place where racers can go to race, and then busting them after when they leave, they're going at it all wrong.
Meh. I mean, it's well within CHP's right to pull over modified cars on public roads, even if they're being sneaky dicks about it. Just because they were promoting a safe and legal place for people to go and race doesn't make it any less illegal to be driving a modified car on the road. That's like lighting up in a smoking area, walking into a no smoking area, and then being surprised that you're getting yelled at.
the officer that was quoted on there said that u would not get pulled over if u are not speeding to the event or away from the event. i really find that quote BS cause i have been pulled over just for the my exhaust. it seems as though the police got busted and are now just trying to cover there tracks, but thats my opnion
still makes the cops look really bad. Technically sure they were within there rights. I mean are there cops waiting outside Pomona race way in So Cal doing this? I gather not much or no one would ever bring business there.
Anyways I hate sneaks no matter how "legal". Could be called "entrapment"

yea, this was discussed in a local forum here in SD, where as most of the people who got pulled over,we're just doing everything nrmal just leaving the vent and getting pulled over as soo as they leave, which is total BS, and the so called "if they werent speeding leaving or coming in they wouldnt have been pulled over" is just a BS cover.. i say X3 on entrapment, now im afraid to race there anymore, or even just watch....
I think it was a VERY bad management decision on CHP's part. It will really hurt business as well for The stadium. Bad business.
Here is the page for the event: http://www.sandiego.gov/qualcomm/eve...acelegal.shtml
I did not read the page. But just at first glance it looks like a legit non-sting event that was not a ploy by CHP and Qualcomm stadium. Looks like a big deal and wow even the RaceLegal site has convincing news as well. HOWEVER tehre was some warnings
A NEW SAN DIEGO LAW ENFORCEMENT TASK FORCE IS WORKING TO KEEP YOU SAFE AND LEGAL:
California Highway Patrol has multiplied the Drag Net enforcement efforts on San Diego highways.
I met with CHP this morning (8-19) and they have assured us their task force WILL NOT target our race events held at Qualcomm Stadium. While they will not be parked outside of the stadium you will need to be aware of their presence on all San Diego highways every day.
I encourage you to think about the minor modifications (such as intake, tires or exhaust) on your vehicles and change them in the pits BEFORE leaving the stadium. Protect yourself on the roads and make sure your vehicle is legal (such as exhaust, intake and tires) before you drive on a public road.
RaceLegal has a full night of fun planned for you at the stadium this Friday night with racing, live entertainment, local vendors and let's not forget hamburgers, hot dogs, street tacos, kettle corn and more.
Your support keeps RaceLegal alive, so let's enjoy together, see you at the track and in front of the stage.

i went to racelegal with my video camera last night just to see whats up
i talked to the person in charge of race legal, and basically they are crawling all over the chp about this all the way up to sacramento. what they told me was that the chp is starting drag net up again and just basically didnt know where to go and so targeted qualcomm because they knew it would be easy and they could claim sucess. the chp commisioner was actually at the races last night too for at least a little while. racelegal has been in meetings with all the head chp ppl _____ing them out for the last week and have more meetings in front of more important figures in the comming week in which they will do the same and they have been told by the chp that it will not happen again and it was a mistake, but they are just trying to embarass the ____ out of them so they can be assured it wont

Seriously, what a bunch of asshats. That's like starting your professional boxing career at a nursing home.
hmmm.....
economy is bad, solution give out more tickets...
consequence, companies losing business because
nobody that uses their car as a daily driver wants
to buy illegal parts.
seems to me like it would cause more harm to california
because it drives business away from cali. i'm tired of this
state, and yet i've been to most other states and still like
ours most
