What exhaust do you have? Is the ticket for emissions? excessive noise?

I'm not too familiar with the way all that stuff in Cali works (I don't live there), but I imagine that you go to the certification place (for lack of a better term...brain fart) show them that you have fixed the problem and pay a nominal fine.

I could be wrong though.

i would have made the cop pull out a decibal meter and measure just how loud the exhaust is.

Do all of the police in CA carry those?

i'm not sure, but they should. you know they're handing out bogus tickets just because they think the exhaust is too loud.

I have heard that. For once I'm glad I live in KS...the cops don't care about that piddly crap.

They are not required nor trained to carry or use a SPL meter. It is up to their "judgement" to determine what they think is over 95 dBA under VC 27150.2. In my opinion enforcement of the law is ambiguous at best, and it's unfair (and should be unlawful) that you have to pay for testing even if you exhaust is in compliance; it's a de facto fine.

even though my exhaust (TRD) came with the little certificate saying that it meets the 95 dba I can still see a cop hasseling me over it.

x2^ pretty weak that they can use their own discretion as to what is too loud.

They shouldn't give you too much beef if you have a cert. But be warned: these guys would rather be doing something else than pulling cars over, so if you do get pulled over, they will try to make worth their department's time by finding other violations (tint, non-CARB approved parts, illegal lighting, etc.). Keep in mind that CHP and most CA police departments receive a bulk of their funding from traffic fines... and they're looking for you to make a sizable contribution.

My boyfriend has had numerous situations with this. First off, on the back of your ticket , near the bottom there should be an area that says shieff signature or check off. If this area is opens then all you have to do it put your old exhaust on and go to the police dept. and get it checked off. If that area is covered by a white sticker that says ref. then your out of luck and you have to get your car smoged thats another story just put the old one back on and go to the ref. if its just a fix it. Put your old one back on, get it signed off by a shierff, wait for the ticket to come in the mail. Than take it into the clerk in court show both the signed off ticket and mailed ticket and your all set pay it off and your done, then go home and put your mod exhaust back on... haha jk

I got one for modified exhaust, and exhaust noise, I was under the impression I needed to get the car smogged to show that my exhaust is under 95db and doesn't increase the emissions. I have the Injen axleback, so I know it will pass, but I dont want to have to take off my intake, prolly easier to put my stock exhaust back on, but whats to say the cop wont be like well how do I know this is legal blah blah. And also, if you fight it, are theyre going to refer you to get it smogged? and then you still have to pay to get it smogged and whatever fees, right?
