I got a ticket, and have some questions...
Its finally happened, after 6 years of driving I got pulled over yesterday.
I was on the 60W yesterday morning right after the 57 freeway coming up on the Brea Canyon onramp stuck in traffic on my way to Whittier Hospital where I had to get some MRI scans done. I crossed what the cop called a gore point, which for those that dont know what a gore point is: you have your solid white shoulder line on the right of the freeway and you have the solid white line coming together from the onramp shown in the picture here:

the picture shows traffic going the opposite way that i was going. Bike cop comes out of nowhere and pulls me over to the shoulder asks me for license registration and insurance blah blah.
Im not trying to say that I didnt do anything wrong (obviously I did) the cop said that I had to show up in court in August.
My question here is that since this is my first ticket, I thought that a ticket was usually one that you just have to pay and get it over with. The cop says I have to show up in court, and the judge decides if i did something wrong or not and how much I have to pay I guess.
What exactly is this ticket? What happens in court? Im a noob to tickets! lol i know that sounds stupid but this was only my 3rd time getting pulled over in 6 years and my first ticket so I have no idea whats going on

haha NOOB!! lol sadly speaking as a veteran with 4 tickets under my belt, just wait 10 days and call the number on the ticket and enter the citation number and the robot on the other side will tell you how much you need to pay.
couldnt you go to driving school since its your ticket? i know here in az you can take driving school once every 2 yrs if you ever get a ticket so it doesnt show up on your record.

If the ticket states that you have to go to court, then you have to go to court. Plain and simple. Sometimes the cop won't specify anything regarding a court appearance, and that's when you just have to go and pay for it or you can go and fight it. Basically, you're going to show up on the date/time on the ticket, and the judge will probably knock it down to a moving violation because it's your first offense. Then you have to pay for the ticket/court fees.

are you sure the cop didnt just say, "appear on or before this date to take care of this". It doesnt necessarily mean that you gotta have face time with the man himself but just take care of it by that date. in just a few days, you will be receiving a letter from the court stating the bail amount, if any. if it doesnt state an amount (like my ticket-long story ), you will be asked to show up...hope that helps...i have 8+ tickets under my belt...any questions, ask away lol
Allen tell the cop that you weren't paying attention because you were texting or talking on the phone or tell the judge that you were profiled because you own a Scion racecar. LOL. J/k. Just go appear in court and the judge. they should be easy on you like everyone says, you dont have a track record.........yet. lol.
haha.... no i wasnt texting, talking or anything else lol i was fully paying attention to my driving.
and no he didnt say to appear on or before the date, he said to appear ON that date to see the judge.
hopefully it wont be too big of a fine, or i can get off with driving school

you will get a letter in the mail stating your bail amount. then you can ither pay it or ir you want to fight it then thats when you will go to court. if your going to pay it then when you do ask for traffic school and take the online ones they are really simple and that will ensure you dont get a point on ur driving record. If you plan on fighting the ticket then try and extend it as far as you can... that will make you chances of the cop no showing up or forgetting the exact specifics and in result ensuring you win and get the ticket dismiss and only pay the court fee of 15 dollars.
hope this helps.
