Default I got towed tonight!

Well, it was last night and I got towed in my very own condo parking lot. I was livid! I get home, park my car but sometimes forget to put this permit visible on the windshield. Mind you, this so-called "permit" is a piece of junk made out of cardboard, yes cardboard.. Anyways, so my sis leaves and right when she was leaving I get a call from her telling me they were towing cars! I quickly throw on my shoes and go outside to find my baby nowhere in sight....he was kidnapped! The home owners assoc. were outside doing the towing. They have NEVER done this in the 2+ years i've lived here. They towed a total of 3 cars, would've been 4 if they could've hooked my sister's car but for some reason they had a real hard time with that and left it. I was livid to find out my car was towed away. The person in charge knows everyone that lives here since it's a very, very small community and knowing who has permits, still proceeded to tow away those cars. Now, I know i forgot to put my permit in front of my windshield but you can't expect to remember to put it up EVERY time you park, that's just not possible. My permit was visible if they bothered to just peak in my window because the permit was laying on the floor. I was shaking, that's how mad I was. I park there ALL the friggin time and everyone knows whos car is whos pretty much. I went to go pick my car up over at the tow yard and it cost $216 to get the little guy out. I know it was my fault that I didn't put my permit on the windshield but this is a community, a very small community that should be looking out for each other. I almost feel like they wanted to cause harm with the towing, if they didn't, they would have at least just peaked in the car to see if the permit was placed elsewhere but obviously they didn't. My front door neighbor got her car towed as well and she's been here longer than I. I was just furious with everything that happened. So much that I actually put a note on my permit so they can see it every time they check my car..."Don't tow my car jackasses". Anyways, thanks for letting me vent but i'm your run of the mill poor college student and $216 is no chump change especially being without a job at the moment. I'm sure i'm gonna give the person in charge of the towing a good earful once I calm down.

P.S. The little guy looked scared when I picked him up

Sucks bro. i absolutely hate home owners association. most of the time you pay for a headache instead of what they are supposed to do. You should def. give them an ear full!

The three of you need to file complaints with your home owners assoc. That seems like some bs, they need to reimburse you. Also it might have been good if you had some pictures of where the permit was on the floor. After all you're paying them to look out for you not to tow your car. Hell, I would be so livid I might find some way to get on that board or oust whomever decided to to cars.

^ Totally agree, try any/all means possible to negotiate and resolve it amicably. When that fails, I stop getting mad and get even. Not suggesting you do so, but that's how I proceed. Good luck!

Photo of the permit on the floor, ESPECIALLY if it could have fallen off the dash and ended up there.

Having been on a couple of condo boards, there is NO excuse for their actions.

I was thinking of taking pictures where my permit was but then i thought they could easily say that I just put it there after it got towed. But I will be filing a complaint and/or talk with the manager behind all of this. Or i'll go to the next meeting and raise hell. For those of you that know or have been part of condo boards, is there really something I can do about this?? Also, we're trying to find a letter that stated(if memory serves us right), cars parked during the day do NOT need the permits. If this is true, I may have a case because they towed the cars while there was still light out. I really want to fight this.

If they require a resident permit to park on the property then yes they can tow if it is not displayed correctly- i.e. on the dash, sticker on a window/bumper. or hanging from the rearview. Even if it was on your seat, they have the right to tow your car cuz it's not 'technically' displayed. (HOA board Vice President for my community)

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes and hope it works out. I'm more curious as to why they don't have stickers that don't require you to place something on the dash all the time. Then they would not do this to their residents. Good luck and keep us updated.

Leave it on your rearview mirror?

Why must you 'remember' to display it daily, if this is something you absolutely need to park in your development?

I fail to see the issue.

Leaving it in the mirror would look kindof tacky though, but then again he wouldn't forget it.

Thing is, the permit isn't a placard or a sticker like school campuses use. It's a friggin yellow rectangular cardboard(seriously, cheap a-holes) with the condo name on it. I can't hang it on my rearview mirror, if I could, believe me, I would. So I always have to put it on top of my dash every time I park and take it off each time I drive off. I still haven't been able to contact the manager and i'm still looking for a letter we got a while ago, which we're almost positive stated that anyone who parks in the condo parking lot during the day, does not need the permit. So i'm hoping i can find it and see if i can get a resolve to all of this.
