Default question about custom plates

I want to get a custom plate and my registration payment is about to be due for next year.

how does this work? can I just go to the dmv and order a new custom plate and pay my registration, what if my registration stickers arrive before my custom plates are in?

do I need to call my insurance company to let them know my plates are changed or does the dmv handle all that for me?

I have a funny idea for a custom plate, but dont wanna post it until I get it for sure so no one takes it

yup go online and check if what you want is not taken and it will cost you 41.00 and a 6-8week wait... and 30.00 more everytime you renew your tags

I ordered mine online and took about 4.5 months to get them (just received them this past monday)

If you order online you fill out everything, pay, and then when they are at the dmv they send you a notice in the mail.
You go to the DMV and they'll ask for your current registration and your old plates.
Hand them over and they give you your new plates, registration card, and those registration stickers to put on the plate.
And thats it

i dont think you have to cause the insurance uses your vehicle VIN # and licence plates are for police to run your plates quicker then putting in 20 VIN #

when u get the plates...regardless of time frame, they will come with new tags...but your registration date will remain the same. after you order it (online is best), they will send you something in the mail once it comes in, and you pick it up at the DMV that is holding it
