Default Reporting bad drivers?

I drive on the freeway 5 days a week and I encounter a LOT of **** butts weaving in and out of lanes, cutting people off, etc.etc. Today a older guy (probably late 40s to early 50s) in a 199x Jeep Cherokee cut me off on the I-5 north where there was noooooo space for his big butt to fit! I held down my horn for a good 5-10 seconds to make sure he heard me (nobody seems to hear horns anymore!). After I did that he tapped on his brakes in the already tight room and I slam on mine which probably created panic in the person behind me. Then he weaves in and out of lanes ahead of me, pulls up beside me, revves and then tries to cut me off again.

I got off at the same exit (not on purpose) and took a picture of the back of his car and license plate. Then I thought that using my digital camera to take a video of his erratic and dangerous driving would have been better proof should I give it to the authorities. However... would they do anything about it? I hardly see *any* CHP guys on the road when I'm driving and these **** butts seem like they don't get caught for their driving.

Is there a way to take video, get a clear shot of the person's back of the car with license plate and give it to the cops in the hopes they'll do something? I have very little faith in the cops for two years (with good reason) and I'd hope they'd do something about it if there was evidence against that driver instead of a photo that any could take of anyone's plate. I'm getting really really really fed up with how people drive now-a-days, especially those in larger cars and possibly kids in the back.

Sorry for rambling.. the guy scared the crap out of me. Got scared about getting my car ruined.

actually...my brother started a website for this exact kind of thing. it was something like www.lookatthat@$$hole.com, i'll have to see if he ever did anything with it. but the basic premise of it was to post pictures and videos of stupid people driving like jerks.

actually, i want to start a site where people post police officers breaking the law. i hate that i get speeding tickets, but then i see state troopers going down the interstate at over 90 mph without their emergency lights on. total load of crap.

that badge means you can only go above the law when enforcing it, not as you please. it is total bs.

Eh cops protect each other even when they know someone did something wrong. Until the mass media talks about it, no one (it seems like it) seems to care enough to do anything. Personally I wish the cops would care more about when homes are broken in to and they don't seem to care.. especially when it's in a nice neighborhood.

Maybe working with the local Sheriffs could get my idea rolling? Just trying to come up with some good ideas to possibly present them to someone in the ranks and get the ball rolling.

honestly, if you were to take a picture, that would cause too much of a problem in your driving and possibly cause an accident. If you have a passenger though, you're best bet would be to have them take down the make/model/color of the car and the license # and call the police/sheriff/CHP and report it. They will put out the call and if there's anyone in the area, they might wait for this person or search them out and pull them over and they can get a ticket based on driver reports. My buddy is a sheriff and he says that this suprisingly happens a lot (getting the calls from drivers) and they have issued a few tickets once the person is caught based on the call...but here in cali, it's such a common thing anymore

I took the picture at a red light Taken on my cellphone and I'm totally against talking while driving so I try not to use it unless I'm fully stopped.

I was thinking more of mounting a camera on the dash and just have it record whats going on instead of trying to get a still photo.

So you're saying that people are calling the Sheriff non-emergency number reporting bad drivers without needing evidence? :O And that people calling in happens a lot now? In my neighborhood there are little sh|ts that drive through squealing their tires (the main street is curvy) around 2am or later. Most of the time by the time the cop gets here, they're gone. Very little faith in the more southern California cops doing anything productive..

Ooohh i gotta story, so i was going home from vegas drivng my moms van and this guy driving a chevy or dodge hatchback was messing with me. as i sped up, he sped up and catched up. as i slow down, he slows down. he kept on doing this from the state line untill baker. so i got annoyed. what i did was that i was on the left lane (he was behind me) and a truck on the right side. i was going the same speed as the truck( haha traped his ****) but it got worse... i sped up all the way and he passed us... so i backed down right (didnt wanna deal with it no more). next thing you know that guy was waiting for us on the emergency lane( thought he had a flat or had an accident) so i laughted. but but next thing you konw he came speeding up catching us. just what i thought HE WAITED FOR US. scared the crap out of me. and then he kept on doing the same crap over and over so i pulled over called 911 and they told us to go to the nearest callbox and told them the number( iguess for location) and said the chp will find it.
i stood there in the call box for 15-30mins and came home safely.

that was crazy. never thought anybody would do that... ohh yea this happed nite time like 12-1am.

yea you never know what crazy people will do... you dont even know if that person has a gun, so dont mess with them call the cops and try to get away from them

haha i see those kinds of drivers everyday, on the 10, 710, 91, 110 and 405 (Yes I have to take all those freeways to get to work Mon-Fri!) and quite frankly, I've never seen one of them get pulled over

-- when one tailgates me, i like to create what I call the "moving wall" and keep a steady pace with the cars next to me so they can't get around, and if there is an opening for them to go around, I'll speed up so they can't get in front of me. Sometimes brake checking works too-- but you have to be careful with that one, don't wanna get rear ended!!!

Good luck reporting a$$hats to the police though-- I've thought about it before, to call in about a "reckless driver" but just never actually did it-- i wasn't sure if you were supposed to call a local police station (in which I wouldn't have the numbers for all those places anyway)....

Uh there was enough room for another small car to fit in, not a f'king SUV I always try and leave a car length, if not more, between me and the car in front of me. When I think of bad accidents, like twisted metal, cars that have been flipped, etc.etc. I creep myself out by thinking about all the blood, gore, or pain I would be in if something like that happened. So.. I give myself enough room to make sure it doesn't. However, in heavy traffic that comes suddenly, changing lanes is not a good thing to do, esp. if your car barely fits in the open spot next to you (talking about the **** hole)!

So yea, I've been driving long enough, and seen enough accidents, to know to leave room between me and the front car. Next time don't be such a little **** leaving stupid comments like that.

IntegreS_350: Thats what I do too, the moving wall bit. If I see an **** hole coming up from behind and the only open spot is in front of me, I speed up a little bit too. Usually I try and block speeders, or just bad drivers, from getting past me to create havoc further up the freeway.

Truthfully I don't know which number I would use either to call in a reckless driver. I've thought of using 911 but a reckless driver isn't a true emergency in my mind. Possibly using the non-emergency Sheriff's number would do the trick, but I don't know if where I drive is out of their range. Also thought about the CHP as they should be covering any freeway, but I don't know the number for them.

i do the moving wall bit as well when i see errant drivers just to show them what's up. i know exactly what you mean ChelsDS. being in San Diego doesn't help any with people from over the border. It's not a racial thing, it's just the way they drive down there in TJ. it's stupid. people try to cut you off when merging and i think, "ok...will cutting me off get you home faster?" it's stupid. i'm a nice driver. i never honk. i always give way to people because i know that if i was in their situation, i would NEED to switch. but some people are just down right arseholes.

it's weird, i encounter a lot of speed traps and i obey the law ALL THE TIME. 25 mph school zone, signaling, 40 mph construction zone, etc. but the time i see a arsehole driver, i look around and i think, "WTH?!?! WHERE ARE THE COPS NOW?" and that's why I am trying to become a police officer because i'm tired of seeing this crap.

once upon a time,
there was a police officer that had just passed everyone because he was going 40 in a 35 and the rest of us drivers slowed down to a complete 35mph roll. and this stupid driver comes up from behind doing about 50 and slams on his brakes and all this time i'm thinking, "ok. if i was a cop and i put one and one together. i'm going 40 and he's catching up. ok...he's speeding." but no.

now i'm going to right an essay about this.

why dont you people stop worrying about other peoples driving and worry about your own. You cant do anything about it, your not going to change a reckless driver. So stop getting distracted by becoming very upset and watch what YOU ARE DOING!!

yes some people are arsholes yes, but what about these people who really need to get somewhere? Lets say your wife just went into labor or your mom just was in a horrible accident and you needed to get there ASAP. But on the way you get some as$hole make a "moving wall" and then you have to loose time or try to go around them causing more dismay. Yes I hate dumb drivers to but if your in the fast lane and someone is trying to pass don't block them MOVE THE FAWK OVER. Also give the cops breaks, how many of you guys are putting your life on the line EVERYDAY for the better of the people? Not many I assume, cops are humans and yes there are bad ones like drivers but you cant judge everyone because of a handful of people.

Yes some people suck agree do what everyone else does and keep it to yourself. Or become a cop and enforce the law
