I don't really care about races done at a track by tC's with I/H/E, so I don't see your point.

In fact, I don't really care about ANYONES race at a track unless you're packing some serious hp, have suprisingly low times, or whooped on some seriously fast times lol.

This man speaks the truth. He just happened to be unlucky. It took me a speeding ticket to stop speeding so frequent. I was a dumb kid back then. Too bad it took him his life to make him stop speeding. Hope this will at least send a message to some of the people here.

Sarcasm and irony go hand in hand, both use words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of the literal one.

So for you to use sarcasm correctly, it would mean that you actually agree with street racing. Somehow I don't think that is your real intent...

Do the amount of deaths from cell phones keep you from using your bluetooth in the car?

Ok, let's look at the numbers...

Scion usually sells about 4-5000 tC's each month. Street racing deaths NATIONWIDE for all makes and models across all age groups is usually under 150 per year. Do you think that the insurance for our cars is high because maybe 1-10 people die (if that) in them per year from wrecking due to street racing? That doesn't add up at all.

I have a daily driver that's definitely track oriented, but even if there was no such thing as street racing, I could and arguably should get pulled over and cited for driving an illegally modified vehicle. Tracks cars compromise a lot of safety for performance.

^^^IT definitly adds up when you have a car that has a demograph of the ages 16-25 mainly purchasing the Vehicle....The Insurance goes SKY HIGH compared to a Kia Reo etc......

With young drivers comes immature, high risk, stupid driving thats a given, and insurance prices directly relate to that....

Edit: not every car accident involving a TC is with street racing but just because they die in street racing is not gong to make the price go up its the overall aspect that there is a ton of totaled TC's by young drivers simple as that.....

So it is stupid people like that street racing that is the reason our insurance is so high......

If a popular car was a ford ranger and a lot of young kids where driving and crashing that....you better believe the isurance for that vehilce will be high

That was exactly my point. Street racing probably has no effect on insurance prices for our cars. It's simply the reality that young drivers get involved in more accidents period.

X3 with Kirby, also it's funny how i used to speed alot and then stopped after i got pulled over for it but it's horrible to hear that people die period. as far as the risk of cell phone comments, dude even listening to music could get you killed while switching lanes because if you have a car on your blindspots then how are you suppose to hear them honking at you when your tring to switch lanes.....think about it man. as for the comment where Kirby said that everyone has atleast raced once or more is true and if your just tring to hide it then go ahead but you know that you have atleast done it just because you wanted to see how fast your car was compared to the one besides you.

I agree with you there about music. My entire point is that this constant obsession with claiming that street racing is so horrible is unfounded. Street racing deaths per year = 150. Deaths from cell phone usage while driving are in the 100,000's. HUGE discrepancy, but no one ever talks about that, and we try and make people who use their performance mods feel like idiots when most of us are more dangerous on the road.

Point of the story? People should get off their high horse.

Sad story about the Deceased Driver. 18 years young.
When I was 18 I used to punch it all the time in my little 1978 CVCC. It was quick but I blew the enging racing on the freeway against a 67 Rustang. So I guess my Brokeness got me to stop acting goofy. That and then there was a ticket I got for driving 65 on a 35 street. Simple math, I just couldn't afford to act dumb. That ticket was in 1996. I havent gotten any tickets since then except for in 2003 I got caught at a Red Light Camera. It was about 6am and me and my Dog were cruising over to get some breakfast. I was doing 20 in a 35!(I wasn't speeding!)
Not too long ago I had a 1978 Z28 that would blow the doors off of pretty much most cars. But I never raced it or ran around town speeding. It just like the one guy said, I used the horsepower to change lanes or pass slower cars when I needed to. I was 25 years old, I loved that car but I thanked the Good Lord he let me have it at 25 instead of 18!
Now I have a 2005 Stock XB. If I punched it, it would probably laugh at me!

Good Thread guys, lots of point of views, but at the end of the day, there is a family mourning the loss of a child.
All we can do is try to educate the young to be more careful.

sad that someone had die, but it's the drivers fault and it helps clean up the earth of the worthless. it just sucks that other property had to be damaged while the clean up takes place for the stupid.

u say that its a source of revenue for the cops to get there quitas up understandable, BUT when the cop tells u to pop ur hood and check to see if anythings illegal and then comes up to u and asks u "u race on the streets with this thing, where do u go?" then thats a different story caused by tC's over here that RACE ALL THE TIME, stock or not

Natural Selection.

Get behind the wheel, and your life is in your hands and the decisions that you make.

I'm more afraid of that crazy SUV moms talking on the phones while yelling at their UN-seat belted/Safety Restrained children jumping in the back than two testosterone fueled boy-racers driving fast.

Please let’s look at the BIG picture and see where the real danger emanates from.

Educate the young about what? It's literally safer (statistically) to be involved in a street race than to drive the speed limit lol. More people die in car accidents of all types per year than almost any other cause of death. By your logic, anyone who drives a car is taking a gamble with their lives .

That's all Scion's fault for making an attractive yet VERY affordable car. Nothing to do with street racing though.

u say that its a source of revenue for the cops to get there quitas up understandable, BUT when the cop tells u to pop ur hood and check to see if anythings illegal and then comes up to u and asks u "u race on the streets with this thing, where do u go?" then thats a different story caused by tC's over here that RACE ALL THE TIME, stock or not
It's not the cops, it's the city. Look, the police department is not concerned about your safety any more than a hospital is. They are concerned with one thing... $$$

If the police department was really concerned about safety, that would ban ALL alcohol consumption, because there are gobs of deaths per year that result from its use, and all of them aren't even DUI's. Look at hoe many people abuse their wife and kids due to alcoholism.

The government would also prohibit the sale of cars that exceed the speed limit. What's the purpose of having a car that can reach 130+ mph when public roads don't even allow it? Surely that would cut accidents down by a LOT right? They could make "track" versions of the car for 1% of American drivers that actually do that stuff.

It's the same reason why I've been pulled over multiple times for tinted windows, when my mom in her Honda Odyssey has NEVER been pulled over for tint. The cop sees an import/tuner car, and sees a source of revenue. No reason to pull over a minivan though, there's no money to be made. Thank goodness my setup is uber clean and gives no indication that I'm boosted lol.

x4, we all speed for what ever reason, I'm pretty good at catching myself doing it most of the time thou, the thing thats stops me the most now from racing is my 2 year old daughter, don't want her growing up without a dad and I can't afford a speeding ticket either, my wife would kill me .

Educate The Young about What????
How about not wrapping your **** around a tree while its full of passengers. Thats what.

My Logic??? All I said was I couldn't afford pointless tickets. Imagine losing your home or your family's life savings over something so stupid. And if you did, that would be ok because I'm sure losing a family member is worse.

I have a cousin who was speeding through Angels Crest about 12 years ago, not racing with anyone, he took a blind curve at a high speed and almost killed the driver of an oncoming car. They were both in intensive care for weeks. He had a car full of passengers 3 of whom walked away with minor cuts and bruises but the 16 year old girl in the front passenger seat was paralyzed from the neck down for life.

You can definately see where the points of view differ from the kids and the adults.

Insurance in NY is not high only for tC's, it's high for all drivers. The reason is simply because the amount of risk involved with living in that general area. There's much more chance of you getting into an accident in New York than say in the Midwest where all there is is an abundance of grass and long stretches of highway.

In New York there are several cars, several streets, several turns, several drivers, and several more occassions of theft and vandalism. Those things place the company at a much higher risk to pay out a claim so they charge you a higher premium in order to be able to pay on those claims.

Remember that insurance companies are here to make money, not to pay out on your claim. If they charge you too little and pay out too much then they lose money. If that happened all the time, they wouldn't insure you...just like if you have 2 DUI's...you are much more of a risk to them than an 18 year old with a clean driving record, therefore, your premium will be higher.

You people all claim to be so smart but you sit around bickering like children about things you don't know about.

You race, you race.

You die, you die.

You kill other people while doing it, you kill other people while doing it.

I posted this to show what can happen. This accident could have been 100000 times worse than it was and luckily it wasn't.

Bottom line is that there is a family here locally that will no longer being spending the holidays with their 18 year old son. If you don't understand that concept then you need to re-evaluate the way you think.

Maybe he deserved it, maybe he didn't.

The bottom line is that he is dead.

Do what you have to do to either end up like him or not. Nobody here cares about what you think, it's what you have done by the end of the day that really counts.

Ask the dead guy.
